Why didn't the team playing against the wind not use that tactical genius move, if you want a team to struggle with the two points you camp outside the area.

Perhaps. But it would seem the key to creating 2 points opportunities is to reduce your focus on getting them. This is what prevents your opponents camping out around the line.

Yup teams need to go for blooming goals and the 2 pt shots will open up in the chaos that arises.

Quote from: thebigfullforward on September 13, 2025, 08:22:19 PMMight have to concede on the new rules. Weren't for them when they were introduced but that Dungannon Trillick game along with a few others was unbelievable. Still don't like a few things. 50m penalty given in favour of Dungannon because the Dungannon player won a free and pretty much ran into the Trillick player and wrapped his arm up with the Trillick man lol. That's just a joke you can win frees by doing that. And thinking of that actually a player caught a mark from a kickout and was just pushed over, no attempt to play the ball whatsoever and it wasn't brought forward. Not sure how that works. Hurson also gave a 2 pointer which I don't think anybody in the stand thought went over and he overruled the decision of the umpire to give it.

It would've been a good game anyway but it was end to end all game. Heart in the mouth stuff if you were a supporter of either team though

If a player takes a mark or even catches without claiming it and is impeded the foul is just that. If the resulting tap and go is impeded it's a 50 meter infraction. I thought every one knew that change?

Sean Hurson the Tyrone Inter county referee clearly doesn't know that. He punished a Trillick corner back on Saturday for impeding an opponent who had caught a mark with a 50m advancement. From which Paul Donaghy scored his last 2 point free.

So even the best referees can get it wrong at times. I've yet to see a game old rules or new rules were things are missed. It's been part of the game.

The only solution would be to have AI watching the game via television and a hooter goes off for every free, that would take away any discrepancy

He's actually right for once. If you play it round the arc looking to work the 2 pointer it's easy to defend and a lot of teams will only have a couple of players willing to try the 2 pointer. Need to have a good ball winner inside as a target to make teams drop back.

If its easy to defend then why are there so many 2 pointers?

Its the same for both teams, its is up to them to develop a plan to reduce the 2 point attempts/scores or produce players that should be able to kick a ball accurately enough over 40 meters, if ya can't then that is down to other factors rather than the new rules

Yup teams need to go for blooming goals and the 2 pt shots will open up in the chaos that arises.

Have ye been watching games at all lads?

Teams all over the country have plans in place for defending two pointers and adjusting the balance of defending goal chances versus defending two pointers depending on the scoreline and the weather conditions and have had for months now.

It's pretty standard to see teams put extra effort (and manpower) into defending two pointers when playing against the wind.

I do think teams who are chasing games with the wind need to get better at creating goal chances when chasing a game because it's far too common to see lads just take the easy/lazy option of throwing the leg at every and all possible two-pointers.

Another thing is that it's so much easier to defend two pointers against a team who only have a handful of two pointer scorers. Saw a club game a few weeks back where a lad who alway played as corner-back was given a job out the field marking the opposition's main two-point shooter. Shut him down completely. Wouldn't be surprised if this type of marking job became a lot more common in the foreseeable.

Coaches really need to get working on increasing the ability and number of two-pointer shooters on a team.
They also need to work on creating goal chances when a team has pushed ou and is agressively concentrating on defending the two-point arc.

Watch a game. In a lot of cases trying to force a 2 pointer will have the opposite effect, teams will crowd the edge of the arc and leave it impossible to get a 2 point shot away. If they do that, they'll leave space for a pass inside for a goal chance or 1 point shot. Play a few of these passes and they'll drop have to drop off, leaving space around the arc for 2 point shooters. Didn't think that was rocket science to be honest.

Your previous post to this one said any ref who doesn't understand the 50m rule shouldn't be refereeing.

It's not like Hurson called a marginal foul wrong, he seen a foul and applied a penalty that isn't in the rule book anymore.

There were two Armagh championship games in the last week decided by referees not knowing the 3v3 rule. In the first an attacker breached the half way line to win a ball and set up a goal. The linesman brought it to the refs attention right in front of me and the ref waved it away saying he was within 4m of the half way line so it was fine.

In the other an attacker breached the half way line by about 15 yards with seconds to do to win the ball from an opposition attacker. In doing so he left two attackers in his team's half but with a third within 4 meters of the half way line. The dispossession lead to a two point score. The referee explained it to the aggrieved manager after the whistle that there was no breach because the third player was within 4 meters even though that player hadn't caused the breach.

Referees are human and will make errors my issue is that there is now a bigger scope for game changing errors by referees and I don't think that's to be lauded.

In my post I conceded that even the best ref gets it wrong! Other than this public flogging do you go around the country looking for mistakes in games?

Is purely ref's or managers and players get a touch to?
