I doubt if Micky Harte would be impressed if Tyrone inevitably had to play as the first game just to make it interesting for TV viewers. This would impact on the whole structure of the competition.

The first televised games of the year are Longford v Westmeath and Down v Cavan. I for one think this is a ridiculous move by both the GAA and RTE

Mostly the GAA since RTE can't televise a game unless it is on, however televising Kilkenny or Kerry hammering someone wouldn't be any help either. The games they are showing are ones where there is doubt over the result and all the more entertaining as a result.

Armagh now face Monaghan in the final on Friday 13 April.

Well done Armagh, there is some hope for the future.

I think Charlie that Joe would find a place for Aaron somewhere, there may be some debate over his best role but he is a class footballer. Drop C. Mckeever.

However as Big Joe has noted before, they should just allocate seats within striking distance of the subs bench to the club using that bench. It is quite likely that the headcase class of opposing fan might make a beeline for those very seats.

Not much history between these two teams

I do recall, when I first took an interest in such matters in the post '77 period, Armagh played Westmeath in a challenge when we got something like 8-14, with one of Harp's finest sons, Sean Devlin, scoring at hat trick at least. I suppose this is unlikely on Sunday, indeed if we score 1-14 it would probably do the trick.

  REMAINING FIXTURES - Sunday:  Galway v Down; Kildare v Laois; Armagh v Westmeath; Derry v Louth.

KILDARE - Have definitely preserved Division 1 status, but need to draw with Laois to ensure a semi-final spot. Otherwise, they are relying on Down to beat Galway and Louth to overcome Derry.

LAOIS - With a strong scoring difference, Laois have probably preserved Division 1 status. Need to beat Kildare, but could still nick a semi-final spot if Galway lost to Down and Derry draw.

GALWAY - Like last year they are coming with a strong late run, but will it be enough? Yes if there is a decisive result in the game between the division's top two - Laois and Kildare. A draw between the two would require Galway to beat Down by more than six points to pip Laois for the remaining semi-final spot, provided Derry don't put up a big score, 11 points or more, against Louth.

DERRY - Have at least ensured Division 2 status next year. Will fancy beating Louth at home, but must then depend on Galway losing to Down. For Derry to catch Laois, they need the midlanders to lose to Kildare and a nine point swing between the two results to occur.

WESTMEATH - The threat of Division 3 still hangs in the air if Armagh beat them in Crossmaglen by more than five points and Louth topple Derry. Ironically, they still have an outside chance of making the league semi-finals, but they need an most unlikely series of miracles.

LOUTH - Division 3 is staring them in the face if they don't beat Derry and Armagh win in Crossmaglen. Can't make the semi-finals, but could still retain Division 1 status if they beat Derry and Armagh also win. A draw with Derry and an Armagh win over Westmeath would keep them in Division 2

DOWN - . . . and out! A miserable first campaign for Ross Carr and DJ Kane. Division 3 status is assured.

I agree, this was a critical weekend when the NFL games decided who would end up in Div 1 or Div 3 and there was also a slate of hurling games that determined who made the final stages of the NHL. In a couple of weeks there will be fewer games, then they could run the human interest stuff, but not today! If there was to be interview stuff why not with some of the Cross people, as they had won an all-ireland today.

At this stage Galway and the winners of next weeks game between Kildare and Laois are for the semi-finals. Armagh are for div 3 unless they beat Westmeath, in this case they will survive if Louth are beaten (as seem probable) or if Louth win then we have to beat Westmeath by more than 5 points (hardly likely!). Most likely Louth will draw and Armagh will win by 4 points, after missing a sitting goal and we'll end up in Div 3!

If this kid moves to a different place, he'd have a case, he just wants to play with the "super" club, without moving anywhere! If  a kid can join any club just because he/she happens to go to secondary school in a bigger town, then the whole structure of the GAA is gone.

It is a disgrace that these parents are trying to use the newspaper to claim that there is something wrong with being expected to stay with the club in the place where they've chosen to live!  They are saying to their neighbours, we don't want to mix with you, our son is too good for all this. If that is so why don't they move to Newbridge.
