In case O'Neill's description didn't do the business, here is a live pic (at Swords)

Quote...and before anyone says "I used to have a car like that"....believe me...it was dangerous :'(...as any of the Jacks on here would know...there's a big ramp up onto the M50 from Sandyford....let me tell you that was good crack!!

Sure you'd cycle it in that time!

Probably you were going on at (lucky for some) junction 13. Not only has this a steep ramp up but is at the highest point on the M50 and a degree or so colder than Dublin generally. Enough to cause extra ice. Junction 14 might be better.

East coast to get it over the next day or two 25cm accumulations.

They must be having some criac in Eastern Scotland, Dundee seems to be getting it, and the likes of Newcastle on Tyne.

QuoteOn this particular day a rich German tourist is driving through the town, stops at the local hotel and lays a €100 note

The above has a ring of truth. All the ECB has to do is print vouchers for tourist services and give them to Germans who can head off to Ireland, Portugal, Greece and Spain on holidays, thereby filling empty hotels and removing the need for Germany to lend money.

Several cm here in BAC. As tomorrow is Sunday, there won't be the chaos there might otherwise be. I parked the car on the road, the sloping drive is not much help in these conditions, the doormat under the wheel proved useful earlier.
Judiging by the traffic cams it is all over town and judging by the precipitation radar e.g. http://www.raintoday.co.uk/ it is going to last a few minutes yet.

If they reduce the pension relief and you are near retirement would you not be better to just put it in the bank???

take pension:  pay, get lower rate relief on money in but pay tax on all payments at marginal rate (could be higher rate)
put in bank: pay tax only on capital gain (less than marginal tax rate), nothing on money taken from the principal.

QuoteIf I buy a mobile in the US will it work over here?

A quad band GSM mobile will. The US is not a great place to buy a mobile, buy jeans instead and buy the mobile here.

Are ticket sales a bit slow for the gigs, I notice that they are advertising them still. Perhaps the extra venues diluted the audience?

Well there won't be anything in the way of a work do, unless the staff do it themselves.
Santa hasn't come to me for about 40 years.

QuoteAccording to the news last night Cowan is still going to provide his share.

The political will is there, but there has to still be question mark over the ability to pay. Borrowing money at high rates of interest for this project or any of the other road projects in the 26 counties does not make sense, at present.
