GAA Discussion / Re: AIF 2021 -- Maigh Eo vs Tír Eoghain
« on: September 12, 2021, 09:40:41 PM »
Watched it today. Thought it was a good entertaining game for the neutral. Tyrones unheralded midfield really impressed me, Kennedy and Kilpatrick. Great tackling and fielding by the whole team and they were able to switch up their style of play which is crucial in today’s game but so few teams seem to be able to do it well. Well done to Brian and Feargal. They did some job in changing that team around from the league hammering against Kerry.

Mayo could have won it too but those missed goal chances, especially in the start of the second half you could see the writing was on the wall. I don’t think Mayo were as bad a people are saying but they need another way of playing and attacking. Aiden O’Shea was again not in his best position I feel, needed to be at 11 to help secure midfield, link play and create pressure high up the field when Tyrone have possession.

Tyrone could be double contenders but Ulster is always minefield.

@bod_uherald

Meath 96 winners the Jubilee team tomorrow- a team fondly remembered by all Tyrone and Mayo fans- be an interesting reaction at Croke Park

Ha! I'm hoping it's because it's 25 years and not because the GAA are trolling Tyrone/Mayo.

You couldn’t make it up, like all the stars are aligning.

Who’ll get the biggest cheer? Martin O’Connell? Coyler? McDermott?

Vicky Wall was 13. She’s had a big impact on the team since she’s come in to the squad. Perhaps we got a bit of luck with the goal but we fought hard for everything and deserved it in the end.

12:45 throw in.

Live on TG4

Meath (All-Ireland MFC semi-final v Sligo):

Oisin McDermott;

Conor Ennis, Liam Kelly, Brian O’Halloran;
Shaun Leonard, Tomas Corbett, Killian Smyth;

Paul Wilson, Jack Kinlough;

Andrew Moore, Sean Emmanuel, Conor McWeeney;
Christian Finlay, Oisin O Murchu, Hughie Corcoran

Leonard, Kinlough and Hughie Corcoran have been the stand outs for us so far. Hard to gauge us based on Leinster form as the quality has been falling a bit in the province the last few years but then Offaly bucked that trend so we’ll have to see but we’re in with a good shot at getting to the final.

As long as the oil and weapons moguls made their money that’s all that matters in Washington at the end of the day. They wanted Syria and Iran too but they’ll have another try at those in the decades to come.

The Red and Blue party finger pointing is just shadows on the wall of the cave. The Afghan army was likely full of Taliban sympathizers and infiltrators. It was never going to go any other way.

I guess the Meath game wasn’t a mirage.

Its clearly a deliberate tactic to contain Dublin for the first half and then push up on them and up the tempo. Dublins wider panels inexperience in these sorts of pressure situations showed itself. James McCarthy at the end for the 45 is hard to understand. The ball was still going in and he was throwing knees into his opponent. Madness.

Referees performance was not the best but there was a lot of cynical stuff going on to make it hard for him.

I’d put Kerry as strong favourites but they haven’t been tested yet in the championship so far.

Don’t recall anyone in the Meath camp mentioning the music. As hound said, we were way better in the second half anyway. Hopefully the Dubs do it again next time then and at start of the match if that’s the effect.

Sligo v Meath....probably Breffni
Cork v Ulster Champs.... probably Tullamore.

Meath vs Sligo on the weekend of the 20th of August it looks like on the GAA website.

Didn’t realise it was on so early. Pleased with the result. Time to do the real business of winning an All Ireland now though.

Semi Finals:
Louth   v    Meath   24.7.2021   12.00pm   Pairc Tailteann, Navan
Dublin   v   Kildare   24.7.2021   12.00pm   Parnell Park

First game out for our lads but it’s at home. New team at this grade with only one hold over from last years team I think. No one from St Vincent’s or Curragha on the panel is disappointing.

Dublin remind me a bit of Meath in the early 90’s past their absolute peak but still able to find a way to win without performing 100%. Doing the right thing when it really counts.

And similarly to that Meath team Dessie has a job of building a new team, it won’t be enough if he tries to just maintain Jim Gavins legacy, he needs to put his own stamp on things and build a team of his own. They are still very formidable but Meath gave them far too much room in the first half.

Dublin might have eased off a bit but there was a plausible chance of them getting caught out, like had Morris been a bit more composed with his point taking or if Ronan Jones looked to slot his shot low to the corner rather than blasting it at Comerford.

Hard one to analyze. We were awful in the first half they were at their usual slickness cutting us up and then the second half started in a total contrast. Are Dublin just not as focused under DF than JG. I’d say they eased up a bit but at the same time they did get rattled. We have plenty to work on for next year and get everyone fit for the league.

We need to develop a few more options in attack, get Shane Walsh fit again and offer a physical presence up there like Sheridan used to. Morris is good but he makes a fair few mistakes along with all the good he does.

Dublin will probably win Leinster again but certainly things looking a bit closer if they come up against Mayo, Kerry or Tyrone.

Sadly not a surprise but I thought we could have been a lot closer but for some poor shooting.

Don’t think the standard in Leinster at this age group is great.
