General discussion / Re: Lions Tour
« on: May 06, 2021, 01:55:23 PM »
Lower squad number this year has helped players who can do more than one position, like Beirne, Hendo, Lawes, Conan, Porter, Daly.

Still think Ryan is unlucky to lose out to Lawes and Hill. A Lions tour would also be great for his development. Jonny Gray another surprise absentee from the second row.
Albeit I think AWJ and Itjoe are guaranteed starters anyway, but Beirne has a great chance of the 6 jersey in the opening test.

I think Henshaw is in more as a 13 than a 12 and is also a likely starter in the first test.

Furlong should be a guaranteed starter.

Of course, with injuries there's nearly bound to be a number of changes between now and the first test.

I see the Guards have launched a Covid breach hotline for Donegal. I saw the report on the RTE news. They interviewed a few locals. Not a lot of intelligent people interviewed. One guy babbling about his democratic human rights. A really dangerous level of stupidity.

Here's the report
Probably not too surprising that only 1 of the 5 interviewed said theyíd use the hotline. But the babbler took the biscuit. Itís his Ďdemocratic right as a human beingí to have parties during a pandemic!

Huge Chinese rocket likely to have uncontrolled re-entry into Earth's atmosphere in the coming days

This will be an interesting one to follow.

China launched a module for its space station into orbit last week, but the mission launcher is heading back to Earth and is uncontrolled. China haven't said whether this was planned and they just don't care, or if there was some error.

The launcher is 30m long x 5m wide and weighs 21 metric tons. Almost impossible to predict how much and in how many fragments it will survive re-entry, but best guess is between 4 tonnes and 10 tonnes will survive. And then travel down to ground at about 350 km/h.

It orbits Earth every 90 minutes. Broadly, its orbit includes New York - Madrid - Beijing - Chile - Wellington. It's much more likely to hit sea or uninhabited areas, but the orbit is so fast, it's impossible to predict at this stage, so will be worth monitoring.

How could a team as bad as Celtic finish second in the league?
Well itís a 2 team league. For most of the 9IAR, it was a 1 team league.

Any precedents for games postponed because of fans?

0-3 for Liverpool would seem a just punishment 🤣

No chat on the match? Celtic need a confidence boost
Making stupid tackles and ducking out of the way of goalbound shots not helping the cause.

Magic from Murphy.

100% long shot success in final session, and finishes it off with a plant double. Sensational.

Bingham up against it v Selby.

Aye think he lives in Dublin now. 3 of his 4 grandparents were from Ireland too. Wouldn't be that keen on him. 4 English men in the semis. Maybe a first
One side of his family from Donabate, the other side from Kilcock, married to a Balinteer woman, living in Dublin, best friend in snooker is Fergal OíBrien - Iím happy to claim him!

I donít like Selby or Kyren, so will be cheering for the others anyway. I put a fiver on Selby at 8/1 at the start to try and put him off, but would be happier to lose it than win the consolation!

Just caught up on the Usman-Masivdal fight

What a show!

One of the maddest baddest main event cards Iíve ever seen. The five fights on the main card all had Ďget off your seatí moments!
On again on BT Sport at 11pm for those who have that and missed it (and if youíve heard nothing about it, donít spoil it with google!!)

I think David made his initial comments before heíd researched the issue and he didnít watch much of the trial. The closing arguments by the prosecution explained it all very clearly.

There are no inconsistencies in the three verdicts. Murder in the 2nd requires an intention to commit a felony. Not necessarily an intention to kill. The prosecution never tried to prove Chauvin intended to kill Floyd.

The barrell of the gun was very square (or rectangular/cuboid) judging by the video, which gave it a taser-like look.

However, the taser gun is bright yellow, which you'd think would usually be a big giveaway! Her eyeline must've been on the suspect all the time and never glanced down.

Pig is the one I could most live without. But given the variety it would also have to be a contender if I could only keep 1!
But, for me, fish would win out for a combination of variety and health. I'd really miss my steaks though.

Fish without question. Only eat red meat or chicken 2-3 times a month as it is and i wouldnít change that.

Presumably you don't eat fish 27 times a month, so what's your (for want of a better phrase) "meat substitute" the rest of the month?

This is bizarre in the extreme and something ill never understand about America and why itís allowed to happen.

The other thing I canít understand (and Iím not victim blaming here) is resisting arrest! If you are black and live in a society were the police are virtually allowed to do what they want, why would you resist arrest?

Though not resisting arrest will protect you either, seen footage of a young lad (13?) being chased, he dropped his gun (why he had a gun is another question), put his hands up but they shot him dead anyways.

Itís a crazy place to live
Agree completely about the resisting arrest bit. You just can't do it. The guy shot by the female officer was asking to be tazed by his actions.

He certainly wasn't asking to be killed though. I believe she made a mistake and did not mean to shoot him with a gun. But she still did. So having looked at the last few days of the Chauvin trial, I would say the 10-15 years for manslaughter would be the right verdict for her.

Also wouldn't complain about the 16 year-old with the knife getting shot. Clearly aiming for a non-lethal part of the body is not feasible as it's too risky. Taser might have been an option, but the police officer looked a bit too far away for that and there was immediate danger for a potential victim. Obviously a lot more detail would be required to evaluate properly, but I'd be leaning towards the police did the right thing and possibly saved a life.

Seeing as apologies are all the rage I wonder if Klopp will have the manners to apologise to Gary Neville....
You're a bit behind. Neville already apologised to Klopp "live and exclusive" on Sky Sports.

General discussion / Re: European Super League
« on: April 20, 2021, 02:49:51 PM »
Premier League statement:

The Premier League, alongside The FA, met with clubs today to discuss the immediate implications of the Super League proposal.

The 14 clubs at the meeting unanimously and vigorously rejected the plans for the competition.

The Premier League is considering all actions available to prevent it from progressing, as well as holding those Shareholders involved to account under its rules.

The League will continue to work with key stakeholders including fan groups, Government, UEFA, The FA, EFL, PFA and LMA to protect the best interests of the game and call on those clubs involved in the proposed competition to cease their involvement immediately.

The Premier League would like to thank fans and all stakeholders for the support they have shown this week on this significant issue.

The reaction proves just how much our open pyramid and football community means to people.

I was expecting some more teeth

Don't think the greedy six intend to drop out of the Premiership and in all likelihood would intent to fulfill their commitments to the PL.

Problem is the lack of "top 4" and thereafter for the other 14 teams in the premiership unless UEFA decide to continue with their Champions League without the rest...
The six definitely want to stay in the premier league as their first option. They already have a spending advantage over the 14, this new Super League would make that way bigger, and would almost guarantee the 6 would be the top 6 every year forever.

Seafoid's FT article shows how revenues will be split. It adds up to 100%! What about the % going down the pyramid?!
Or is it as Florentino Perez said - "We'll buy your best players, so you'll get more money that way" !

I would think Premier League 14 have to threaten to throw the 6 out.
That would likely be a big short term hit, and they'd be hoping all out that the 6 would cave and not call their bluff.
