He was poor when he came back from oz. He couldn't really kick the ball. If he'd continued the way he was before he left he'd have been great.

Yeah it was really noticeable how crocked he was after Oz especially his kicking - his kicking motion on the rare occasions he did kick was so slow and cimbersome compared to what he showed in that All-Ireland was night and day. I don't think he'd have been anywhere near Clifford's level but there was definitely a decent forward there already when he left for Oz. Jusct checking the Terracetalk website he scored 1-11 in the 2008 Championship and 3-12 in the 2009 Championship which was fairly decent scoring. He scored a total of 0-2 in the championship after he came back.

He tore his hamstring tendons completely off the bone, an injury that retired Paul O'Connell.

Where did the brother Barry John go? He was handy at minor. Play senior for couple years then disappeared.

made his senior debut for Roscommon in the 2012 Championship against Tyrone and went on to make 133 appearances in the primrose and blue.

13 years of intercounty is a serious stint in this day and age.

Certainly is and had three years with the U21s 2012 to 2014 where Roscommon reached two All-Ireland finals losing out to star studded Dublin team. 2011 and 2010 played Minor winning one Connacht title.

Fairly sure he went to Australia for a while when Tommy was in the AFL, met some lads who were travelling down there and planning to head to San Francisco, followed them there and never ended up leaving.

Darren Hughes

After 19 seasons in the colours of Monaghan, Darren Hughes has called time on his inter-county career.

Midfielder Hughes from the Scotstown club was part of the Farney side that won Ulster titles in 2013 and 2015 and at the age of 38 was to the fore as the county in 2025 won promotion back to Division 1 and reached an All-Ireland quarter-final. Five county titles also came his way.

Reflecting on his long career, Hughes told monaghangaa.ie: "It has always been a great honour to wear the Monaghan jersey and I am truly grateful for the memories I have both on and off the field.

"To my team-mates past and present – thank you for the memories, the battles, the laughs and the lifelong friendships.

"To all of the managers, coaches, selectors and backroom staff who have guided me over the years – thank you for your belief in me, your guidance and your dedication to Monaghan football."
