The BBC documentary Death of Yugoslavia is up on Youtube, great documentary work but chilling.
That really belongs in the great documentaries thread, an epic work.

Agreed. I recall watching it on TV at the time and have watched the entire series twice more on YouTube.

I always used to watch reports / read up on the Balkans War and used to ponder if such a scenario might have unfolded for us in the North, if things had significantly deteriorated in the early 1970s, as it threatened to once or twice.

Have done some research into this topic but looking to expand my knowledge... apart from the above youtube series are there any other videos that are quality viewing?

That would be my take on it. Galway, for me, are probably the only team who could beat Limerick but they could get beat by others too.

Cork hadn't Horgan so there was a bit of shadow boxing there but still they are probably a bit away from Limerick levels.

KK probably a bit above the teams in 1B so haven't been pushed yet.
I don't know if Limerick can do back to  back. It's very difficult these days

In the past 10 years, Kilkenny won back to backs in 2011 and 2012 as well as 2014 and 2015. Only a fluke Clare win in 2013 prevented the mighty cats from doing the coveted 5 in a row.

Not sure of your logic but going by that Clare prevented Kilkenny from winning 7 in a row but never actually beat Kilkenny...

Missing the point. What people seem to forget to do these days is look at the previous messages. I'm saying it's possible to do two in a row.

Back then there was a backdoor but not the round robin system of the last few years pre Covid.

Limerick may do a back to back this year due to the shortened championship but it'll get harder to do it again if the round robin gets re-introduced in 2022.

Limerick have a team for the ages and would win regardless. Do you think otherwise?

I see Federer withdrew from the French open.

Choker!

He's past it IMO. Nadal is the king of clay

Don't see how "it's been coming for a while" in all honesty, on what basis? That statement doesn't stack up in reality. Galway have had zero relegation issues until this year, finished table in 1st, 5th, 3rd in previous years.
50/50 chance of it right now but the eqivalence of a poor showing over 3 weeks in May 2021 to it's "been coming since 2018" is some stretch. Even if you were to say it's been coming since the games resumed last October then that's a strong argument but saying it's coming since 2018 doesn't make any sense.
Mayo are a better team than Galway but they are better than a good few more as well in Div 1, plenty other teams in the lower ranking range outside of Dublin, Mayo and Kerry who could all beat each other depending on the day.

Maybe your right and I didn't have such an in-depth look as I should have. I stand corrected.
Absolutely correct. We won division 2 in 2017 and haven't been close to being relegated in the 3 seasons since.

Still a long way away from an All Ireland Final appearance never mind a Sam Maguire
Miles away. Never stated otherwise. That wasn't the point you were trying to make.

And what's the point you are trying to make now?

Clippers who struggled in 7 against Dallas, will have it tough as well against the Jazz.

I like the Suns but just can't see them overcoming the Nets if they even got there. Booker would need to score ridiculous points to keep them in touch

Suns are a good side with a good leader

Same as 30 others in regard to winning Sam.

Disagree. Personally believe Kerry could end Dublin's reign this year with Tyrone having a strong shout also at dethroning Dublin.
Confirmed yourself right there as a bad WUM ;D

Maybe a bit biased but with Logan and Dooher in and a few promosing performances I think we stand a better chance than most other DIV 1 teams

So looks like the Nets are gonna walk the NBA playoffs, Clippers maybe equipped to live with them in the Finals but that's about it I would think

Do you not think the Suns stand a chance?

P.S. I bet 100euros on Nets @ 7/1 at start of year, just looking to know how safe my money is lol

Cam down lads, we are not the same standards as limerick,Galway Tipp etc. we need to be competing at minor and u21 before we have those sort of aspirations. I'll take a deep run in Leinster with the view of adding a few more players for next year.
Exactly,
If we could beat dublin in the leinster that would be incredible. If not, i think we would have a relegation play off against laois. If we won that, along with our league campaign this year and can bring on some quality young players that would be a hugely succesful year, and something to build on

Agreed

Did Tipp not stop the drive for 5?

That was in 2010. Kilkenny had won it the previous 4 years.

All things considered, Antrim have a stronger team than Galway this year.

2020 – Lavey  Ulster Minor Champions
Lavey: J Scullion; Joe Duggan, S O'Neill, S Melaugh; E Downey; Rory McGill, R Farrell, Ryan McGill; C Collins, Jamie Duggan (0-2); P McGurk (0-1), J McGurk (0-2), N Duggan; C Downey (0-2), M Downey (0-2f)

2021 – Lavey v Bellaghy
Lavey: Jack Scullion; Aidan Toner, Conor Mulholland, Jamie Duggan; James McGurk (0-1), Chrissy Henry, Hugh McGurk (0-1); Peter Rafferty, Damian Chivers; Fintan Bradley (0-2), Oran Downey, Matthew Downey (0-2, 1f); Enda Downey (0-4, 3f), Ryan Mulholland, Declan Hughes (0-4)
Subs: Cailean O'Boyle (1-2), Shane McGill (0-1), Ryan Farren, James Crawford

By my count, its 5 from their recent Ulster Minor victory, which is a fair few being blooded in the same team.  And the likes of Bradley and O Downey wouldn't be much older.  I'd say the difference is the ability to bring on the likes of O'Boyle who can still make a big contribution. Plus the likes of D Hughes, C Mulholland, D Chivers, C Henry, A Toner and R Farren have already played in a senior county final with Lavey.

Different E Downeys.

This is my final post on this topic. It has gone decidedly off-topic.
The purpose of the thread was fairly uncomplicated; posters were invited to express their personal opinions and there should be no need for anyone to reply with abuse of any sort.
That sort of schoolground behaviour may be okay on topics of a broader nature but I see no need for it here.
To recap one last time; In my (very) personal opinion Arlene Foster suffered at least as much personal tragedy at the hands of the Provos as any nationalist did because of loyalist paramilitaries. IMO again, I think she has every reason to feel bitter. I don't like her politics but I acknowledge that she left her sectarian overcoat behind her on at least  two occasions. That's my personal opinion- more or less and it will remain so.

Arlene Foster told the FT  she would probably leave the north if there was a united Ireland.
I was very surprised by that.

Were you really surprised. I am not surprised all she would say that. However, whether she means it or not I dont know.

She is coming out with controversial statements like this to desperately cling on to any relevancy before she is replaced by Givan next week.
