Quote from: Milltown Row2 on May 08, 2026, 01:36:40 PMCity have lost once at home this year, first game to Spurs lol!

But there is no indication that they will lose this weekend, Brentford score but are also open to, so can see it being a high scoring game, home team on top

Who knows what West Ham do, they are fighting for their survival and at home to a team that was playing a tough CL game during the week.. two games ya couldn't call
City don't have to lose. A draw is perfect for wrapping it up with the visit of Burnley.

Rodri not training today so unlikely to feature at the weekend. Dias and Gvardiol back training apparently. Brentford result tomorrow could be huge for Arsenal. City fail to win and it means Arsenal can lift the PL trophy at home against Burnley on the Monday night, 2 weeks before CL final. That would be the ideal scenario, get the celebrations with the fans out of the way, a couple of days on a high and expel all that emotional tension but still have plenty of time to calm down and be perfectly refreshed for the big final. Of course worst case scenario never too far away either where Arteta is involved!

Agree with all that but I feel Arsenal really need to win the league to go in with the right frame of mind. PSG have a serious press. If you go in with fear against them and play not to lose, they will smother you.

PSG much more tactically fluid and astute than Bayern. Formidable opponents but think some are bigging them up more than what they actually are. Arsenal more than capable of beating them. Their defense is much better than anything the French will have come up against. Obviously will need a bit of luck but PSG waste some amount of chances too from the last 4 games I've seen. Can't afford to be like that in final. Arsenal will get their own opportunities. If they go in as PL champions it's a 50/50 game for me.

Another significant night tomorrow night for the gunners. If Crystal Palace win that's 3 gimmie points in the run in for Arteta. Plus City up first on Saturday against Brentford. Rodri hasn't trained yet so unlikely to feature at this stage. Fail to win that game and it will have been some week for the North Londoners.

Next three games huge now for the mindset going into final.

Go in as PL champions and it will be a hugely exciting assignment for Arsenal getting a pop at achieving something truly historic but with an air of freedom about it.

Go in having blown the league and it will be an extremely nervous and uncertain task for the gunners, trying to salvage the season and playing for the manager's future. Failure would have seismic consequences for the clubs approach to next season.

Quote from: tiempo on May 06, 2026, 10:16:59 AMGyokeres unlocked that performance from Arsenal especially the last 20mins

Instead of retreating to the edge of the box and inviting a barrage to hang on, the level of pressing high up from the front 4 was awesome

Gyokeres was the first line of aggressive defence and a great out ball time and again, he must be full of confidence at the minute, was unlucky with a tough volley for 2-0, hopefully starts to find the net a bit more often now too

While not the biggest fan of Havertz I think he's potentially the better option vs Bayern/PSG, but you have to back Gyokeres after that performance as he'll run his balls off and Havertz won't
Havertz held up the ball up very well in the City league game.

Gyokeres is a bit of a flat track bully who still has it all to prove in big games.  A few here getting a bit excited over a £60 million striker being able to hold the ball up and run around chasing a few lost causes
Turned the CH time and time again from nothing balls. There was even a red card check on him. Constantly put Athletico on the back foot when pressure was starting to build on Arsenal. A bit disingenuous with that statement.

Man of the match. Class. Hold up play unreal.
I thought he looked championship standard and a bit of a dud a while back but he has really grown into the season of late. Hold up play, first touch, passing and running are all unrecognisable. An absolute animal tonight. His desire was infectious. Left it all out there on the pitch. If he can become a bit more clinical in front of the posts the sky's the limit for him.

Quote from: Look-Up! on May 05, 2026, 10:57:41 AMOld Firm is massive on Sunday for obvious reasons.

Huge weight of history on Hearts and they will be praying/half expecting Celtic drop points. An emphatic win v Rangers would seriously put the wind up Hearts whether they admit it or not. No gimmies for them from here on in.

Not sure where the confidence is coming from for an emphatic win at the weekend, anything I have seen of  them of late is not positive. Some of the football is turgid and hard to see where they will even get a goal from at times.

Obviously posting with the hope of being wrong  ;D
Any win at this stage would be emphatic  ;D . But I suppose emphatic would be a comfortable 2 goal victory where Rangers pose feck all threat. They've blown the league so might hopefully be flat. I know it's the derby and fans will want to f**k Celtic's bid too but foreign players don't always buy into that. A lot of them might be pissed off and mentally checked out.

Quote from: ONeill on May 04, 2026, 11:17:09 PMWhich is the bigger game? Madrid on Tues or the Hammers on Sunday?

Both equally as big.

Agree, both the same magnitude

The league isn't done til the final whistle on the last day, was a serious comeback from City last night full credit to them

Palace on the final day is no gimmie either, expecting plenty of drama yet

Be nice to brush Athletico aside tomorrow night, but thats v unlikely ... interesting to see if Lewis-Skelly features in CM before the end of the week, very decent Zubamendi style performance at the weekend

Palace may have kids out with European final. West Ham is the game. Away to a team fighting relegation. Brentford could get result v City as they are good on counter and both teams need to win.
If Rodri is still out for Brentford game, makes them dropping points more likely. A similar midfield performance like last night would be kamikaze against Brentford, with the likes of Thiago knocking about behind.

Pendulum swings again. City looked like champions after the victory over Arsenal, but I did think at the time that the Rodri injury might have been a chink of light for the gunners.

Everton looked very ordinary at times tonight, full of endeavor but limited in ball control and passing. City looked extremely dangerous out wide and capable of running up a score line but weren't clinical. But when Everton ran at them they looked very vulnerable through the middle and fell apart for a 15 minute spell. Maybe if Rodri was there with that bit of class and composure, they might have contained the Everton burst better and never gave them the smell of blood.

Arsenal now have control again but I'd still be nervous for them. And absolutely cannot afford a draw no matter what people say. This City team are a very dangerous animal. Last 10 minutes they showed what they're like when shackles off and chasing goals. You don't want to be giving them a sniff especially with Rodri probably back next.

Saka was horrific for the first 4 or 5 touches he got, weak as piss, but offered a bit after that. Game should bring him on and he might offer something yet for the remainder of season. Martinelli looks a bit heartless and has regressed. Speaking of regression what the hell has happened to Odegaard? An absolute shadow of his former self. Eze looks like he might have something about him but will need help. Havertz to still feature but not someone you would be 100% confident with riding into battle.

Still a good enough result for Arsenal and a great chance to make CL final but the more I watch them the more they look like a team waiting to be put out of their misery. A team seriously lacking in the courage needed for doing what needs doing over the next few weeks. Not beyond salvation but they need to seriously dial in soon. A bit of calmness is needed in possession and passing as long as it doesn't descend into slackness. But much of what they did last night was touching on the latter.

If Delaney was still about he'd probably be straight onto the phone to Trump.

Pundits saying Arsenal showed up today but I thought they lacked a lot of quality compared to City. Only one team looked like PL champions, the other? Functional would be the best way to describe them. Some of the gunners severely lacking in strength and desire on the ball and especially second balls. Still not out of it but City will need to slip up. Maybe Rodri going off a glimmer for Arteta. But PP must be seriously kicking themselves tonight for paying out on that Jonah.
