The 2021 All Ireland Semi between Dublin and Mayo is up there for me. Mayo finally got over the line against that team, albeit in a semi and not a final.

General discussion / Apartment in Queens New York
April 27, 2015, 04:44:35 PM
Lads, 2 of us heading out to New York at the end of May for the summer to try and find a bit of work, have a couple of contacts out there but nothing major. With regards to an apartment does any of you lads out there know where I would best be looking online. Have someone over there who can check them out for us before we go. Looking for something basic enough. What about work? Know a couple of ones who have got bar work handy enough in Irish bars, would that be a realistic possibility? Heading in four weeks so would need to get something sorted. Thanks in advance for any help.

General discussion / Work in Australia
February 27, 2014, 12:48:18 PM
Lads I am thinking about going out to Australia in about October time on the year visa and was wandering does anyone know anywhere or anyone hiring to arrange a job in advance before I leave home. I have a degree in Hospitality, I know it isn't as handy as a trade but I was thinking there should be work around in my field. I just don't know whether it is worth taking the risk of going out with no job and then having to come home again in the near future if I don't find anything. I was thinking of Sydney or Perth. Any information would help.

Cheers

Next year's Giro d'Italia will begin in Belfast as part of three days of action on both sides of the Irish border.

The cross-border start to the world-famous event will be held over three stages from 10-12 May.

The stages will involve routes taking in Belfast, Armagh and Dublin.

Estimates suggest a figure of around £4m will be required to bring the event to Ireland but the commercial return could be in the region of £10m.

Tourism chiefs from Northern Ireland and the Republic are backing the event.

The start of the 104-year-old Giro is normally hosted in Italy but in recent times has been awarded to an outside country every two years.

Tourism officials and government representatives from both sides of the border are attending Thursday's respective launches at Titanic Belfast and Dublin's Civic Offices on Wood Quay.

It will mean that two of cycling's Grand Tours will both make visits to Britain and Ireland next year, with the Tour de France starting in Yorkshire.

The Republic of Ireland did welcome the Tour de France in 1998 when the first three days of the race took place in the country.

Michele Acquarone, head of the Giro and managing director of Italian race organiser RCS Sport, said that Belfast would "provide spectacular backdrops for the 2104 Grand Partenza (Big Start)".

Northern Ireland Tourism Minister Arlene Foster added that "plans are already in motion to make the occasion a fabulous celebration worthy of Italian cycling traditions".

General discussion / Lost Suitcase
October 22, 2012, 07:11:07 PM
Lads i travelled with Ryanair from Palma to Dublin last week and still haven't recieved my suitcase. They told me if i don't hear anything within the week to fill out the claims form on the Ryanair website. But i never took the 5 euro (or whatever it was) insurance when booking the flight (I'm guessing they would know that). Does anyone know if i am still covered for lost suitcase or not? i presume its lost as i am home 5 days now and have heard nothing, i have even traced the case online and have only got 'tracing continues'. Has this happened anyone before and if so how long did it take for you to get your suitcase back?

A mate of mine is studying a degree in Hospitality and Tourism and needs to go on work placement from June-December next year and wants to go abroad. He has emailed some companies but has either been unsuccessful or they haven't got back to him.  Anyone have any ideas or contacts that would help?

Thanks

After a great win last week we can go out there with a lot of confidence and give it a go. One win out of the last 3 games should keep us up. Will the Cross lads be playing?

Snooker player Stephen Lee arrested in betting inquiry

Snooker player Stephen Lee has been arrested following an investigation into suspicious betting patterns.
West Midlands Police confirmed that the player, from Trowbridge, Wiltshire, and ranked number 25 in the world, was arrested on Thursday.
A spokesman said: "A 35-year-old man from Wiltshire was arrested on Thursday 11 February on suspicion of cheating."
He said the arrest followed a joint operation with the Gambling Commission over concerns about betting patterns.
World Snooker, the commercial arm of governing body the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA), said it was awaiting further developments.
"We are aware of the recent news articles concerning match fixing and are awaiting further reports," a statement said.
"In instances where the Gambling Commission commences an investigation into a match, the WPBSA works together with the commission to assist in its inquiries and the WPBSA will hold its own investigation open pending the conclusion.
"However, neither the commission nor the WPBSA will release information surrounding a betting matter while an investigation in ongoing."

General discussion / Keeper guilty of moving goalposts
September 25, 2009, 12:25:03 PM
IFK Gothenburg goalkeeper Kim Christensen could be in hot water after moving the posts during a Swedish first division game to make the goal smaller.

The Danish goalkeeper was caught by TV cameras pushing the posts toward each other before a match against Orebro.

Referee Stefan Johannesson spotted the posts had been moved a few centimetres about 20 minutes into the game and pushed them back into the right place.

Christensen later said he had done the same thing before several other games.

He was spotted using his feet to push the bottom of each post slightly inwards.

The Swedish Football Association is investigating the incident.

"I have never heard anything like this before," said Swedish FA's disciplinary chief Kheneth Tallinger. "It's unique."

IFK Gothenburg drew 0-0 with Orebro and top the table on goal difference with just a few weeks of the season to go.
