Everyone was saying the same about both 2018 and 2022 and both ended up as brilliant tournaments.

This one is going to be much harder to follow for most of us given the time difference. Also, with 48 teams there will be way more filler than normal. Hard to see any way it can be as compelling as the last few.

Does anyone who uses this word actually know what it means?

What is different this time is that various levels of government are prepared to tell FIFA to f**k off. The WC is an enormous money spinner for FIFA (it is famously loss making the other three years) because it gets someone else to pay for it, be that sponsors or taxpayers. Then they f**k off and leave Joe soap paying for it for years to come. Same as the Olympics.

Of course because Infantino is so in bed with Trump, he refuses to say almost anything critical so will simply let the fans bear far more of the cost than normal.

On the NJ transit side I've absolutely no issue with them looking to cover their costs but at the prices that have been announced, there is undoubtedly an enormous margin in it for them. I'm not aware of any enormous infrastructure upgrades that have had to be made for it so essentially what you're really talking about is putting on a few more trains and buses.

It's a Hong Kong movie, not Japanese.

Quote from: Armagh18 on April 15, 2026, 09:48:47 PMf**k me not much call to send him off for that
He didn't send him off for that, he gave him a yellow card for it, just so happened he already had a yellow so had to go.

Superb game of football, the semi final v PSG should be as good, whoever win will be massive favourites for the Final.

Armagh18 has real difficulties conceptually with this sort of thing. Applies it to Armagh football as well. Wants you to look at the consequences of making such a decision and then work backwards.

A ludicrous yellow to concede, and he'll be rightly pilloried for it.

Olise is a terrific footballer. PL clubs should never have let him get away.

Like George Lee, but without the need to shave.

Story seems to be gathering steam. They're due to tee off in Mexico tomorrow. What odds they don't make it?

Imagine holding out for the Healy Raes to have principles, even self-serving misguided ones.

Quote from: trileacman on April 14, 2026, 01:12:39 PMAs for Donegal to cork that exactly what we need. Energy production built where no-one lives. 🙄

Imagine if, get this, there was a way of moving said energy from one location to another.

What a f**king reductive, ignorant take.

Getting ready for a championship match on a Friday evening including potential travel from, for example, Belfast or Dublin to the far end of the province, or a different province altogether, is obviously a logistical issue that can't be dismissed out of hand.

Quote from: andoireabu on April 13, 2026, 06:39:26 PMIf they had even played 3 good rounds each there would have been a big gap to the pack, never mind four good rounds.

You can't make that argument at all. Four lads were one shot back on -10. Henley finished 66-68. Hatton shot 66 twice.

Quote from: illdecide on April 13, 2026, 10:52:22 AMWas a great days entertainment, the POG just could live with Wout's sprint which I feared although I was glad to see WVA win as it's nice to see a different face win for a change. Can't belive POG didn't try to burn him off earlier as I'm sure he feared getting out sprinted at the finish. Think I can remember him trying it but a few sharp corners on the cobbles put paid to that but he should have kept trying to avoid the end sprint.

He absolutely tried to get rid of him a few times but everyone was utterly fucked!

Or, as is much more likely, he was talking complete and utter pony.

Quote from: cavanmaniac on April 13, 2026, 01:36:37 AMtoday's game having quite a few examples of attackers turning down opportunities and shoveling the ball back outside the arc when it became clear they had no path to walk the ball over the bar.

This long predates the new rules coming in.
