GAA Discussion / Re: UTV & BBC & RTE & TV3

Quote from: imtommygunn on March 27, 2024, 02:22:48 PMCoverage was very good. Niblock's good, Harte a good addition to it and sarah mulkerrins is very good as well. Much better than some of the stuff you would see on RTE.

I found on the BBC coverage that the presenters and panelists were excited about the game. Knowledgeable about tactics and match ups. That they were determined to focus on the best aspects of the game while highlighting where teams  were failing or were outmatched.
There were no petty jealousies or personal egos on display.
They cared more about the profile of football than their own.
And absolutely enjoyable to watch.
But while Niblock is a tenfold improvement on Morrissey he can still be a bit boring in his commentary.

Quote from: Blowitupref on March 26, 2024, 07:43:19 PMJim McGuinness on current scheduling.

"The whole thing is blurred. One thing to the next thing to the next thing. There is no gap.

"There is no opportunities. It is hard to develop a team as well when you are constantly playing. Listen, we basically are managing, we took in eight kids, U20s, to bring us up to 40.

"For most of this national league and preseason, we have been operating with 22 to 24, that is the reality.

"Sometimes you are down 50 per cent of availability. Most of them were issues that had to be sorted out from last year and have followed through.

"There is a huge residue in terms of the split season, people coming in injured, trying to get people up to a level. I haven't experienced this level really in my life.

"We are trying to find a way to get as many back on the pitch as possible. We haven't had everyone on the pitch at the one time yet, I am looking forward to that.

"The more it goes on I'm not even sure it will happen. When I was manager of Donegal previously, you always had injuries that is why you carry a couple extra.

There is a strong element of managers and players being on tenterhooks because one slip. Time frames are so tight and you could miss everything. Literally everything.

"Even if you do get back are you going to be at the level to compete because of the intensity of the games you are going into. It is tricky, really tricky for players."

Meanwhile Kieran McGeeney reckons all pre-season competitions need to be scrapped a total waste of time. He would prefer the NFL to start in the first week of January and two have home and away matches with 14 league games instead of 7.

Don't sound like remarks born in confidence.

they wont win it this year either but I do think the league final will also be the AI final

You've the 2 form teams in the country playing on Sunday, and could very well (taking nothing for granted of course) meet again in an AI final. You'd have very short odds on Dublin doing the double, seriously long odds on Derry doing the double. That's the position Derry is in

A Very envious position for 31 other teams.
So I am not complaining.

You appear to be absolutely fixated with Derry. Why is that?

Quote from: tbrick18 on March 24, 2024, 09:12:55 PMDublin are well ahead of the rest at the minute, but tyrone made them look even better.
Tyrone were brutal.
Nothing going forward at all, pot shots at best. No creativity at all.
Dublin could have scored another 4 ot 5 goals but for morgan.
The speed they attack with is awesome, the kicking game really worked, but tyrone defense was very naieve and slow.

Maybe if tyrone had everyone fit and able they'd do better, but that was shambolic today.

Hopefully Derry put it up to them, a loss wouldn't be the end if the world but really need to be competitive.

Just wondering!
Were you at the game or did you see a recording of it?
If you did is it available somewhere?

I was at it.
Not sure if it can ve watched anywhere.

Cheers

Quote from: Olly on March 23, 2024, 07:40:16 AMThis isn't really a solution but I've a friend called Mark Devlin and he's very intelligent. We call him the advanced Mark.

Are you gauging his level of intelligence against your own?

Quote from: Derryman forever on February 27, 2024, 08:51:04 AMAny suggestion that Defenders or forwards  cant cross the half way line is simply laughable.
Half backs have been scoring  since adam wad a boy.

The biggest problem with football is negative commentary and too much  available to see and comment on.
Go back and watch games from the 70s , 80, and 90s. There were many Turgid affairs with very poor skills and no plan. Just hoof it as far as possible and hope.

Well now.
Glad to see a bit of fight back.
I really think the GAA need to make it clear to RTE and others that the contract to broadcast the games comes with an obligation to promote not negate the great game that it is.

Why they allowed Brolly O' Rourke  and Spillane to talk down the game fir so long beggars belief.

Quote from: imtommygunn on March 17, 2024, 07:03:59 PMKerry and Dublin are the only two with the depth who can pull themselves out of any hole they may find themselves in. The rest take it seriously enough. The likes of Tyrone and maybe Galway have got wake up calls in the league. Tyrone will be better for it but Galway need to keep players like comer and Walsh fit to be all the better for it. A final in it is no big deal though.
There are 8 teams in Div 1

Kerry and Dublin make 2
Tyrone and Galway "got wake up calls"
Roscommon and Monaghan didn't "take it seriously"
"the rest" = Mayo and Derry !

Teams getting beat doesn't mean they're not taking it seriously.

Monaghan looked to be taking it fairly seriously on Saturday evening.

The fact,so many of you are exercised by his article, shows that  he is doing what he is paid to do. And doing it well.
