Quote from: ardtole on Today at 12:27:15 PMNavan would be the most logical venue for the Down v Offaly game. Tullamore and Newry both approx 60 mins from Navan.

Logic and GAA normally don't go together in the same sentence...

Portlaoise? Good god man have you any idea how far it is from places like Ballinskelligs to even Limerick!

Thurles at least I would hope and if that's not available, Nenagh or the Gaelic grounds.

from places like bettystown and ballinabrackey (both clubs have players on Meath team) portlaoise is same distance as from Kerry

You've been schooled already but just to reiterate the facts, Bettystown is 130km all on motorway pretty much or 90 mins drive from Portlaoise. Ballinskelligs, where one of Kerry players come from - is 282km or 3hrs 15m drive, from Portloaise. A quick look on google maps would tell you this.

Semple Stadium is only a slightly shorter journey from Ballinskelligs 244km. Bettystown is 195km, motorway for 75/80% of it.

Anyway, looking forward to a decent game. Meath are going well and games between the counties underage are always tough. Horrible memories coming back of an u21 semi final in Nenagh back in 1997 when we got absolutely rode by a ref from Donegal and lost by a point.
.
I've already schooled the person who was supposed to school me. But it's irrelevant where game will be played. Can't see us been beat. Only improving every game. Could play it in Tralee I'd still be fairly confident of winning. No disrespect to Kerry. Just don't see it. My main worry would be Tyrone of stopping us from winning all ire. I foresee a Meath Tyrone final. Sure we will play that in Killarney  ;D  ;D

You've schooled nobody, you've just made a fool of yourself.

Ballinabrackey is an hour from Portlaoise.
lot longer than a hour. And what about bettystown ?

Do you know where Ballinabrackey is located? It's south of Kinnegad. You'd want a geography lesson on your county!!

well since I was born and raised in ballinabrackey I have a fair idea where it is. Went to school in castlejordan under John Quinn. Went to school with Gerry coffee (current senior player Sean father ) also went to school with young Ennis father. So yeah and it's a lot longer to portlaois than a hour. Up into colehill then killiskillen then into rossan , kinnegad then miltownpass up through kilbeggan into tullamore then and only then onto portlaoise. Is that enough geography for you ??

And it's 3 and a half hours from Cahirciveen or anywhere in South Kerry to Portlaoise, 3 hrs even to Thurles where game is being played, so your original statement that Ballinabrackey or Bettystown were similar travel times from farthest reaches of Kerry was nonsense..

Ghassan worked in Gazan hospitals during the first month and a half of the genocide.
Should be invited to Dublin.

Just on that too, teams are playing the league early in the year too. We are on Round 6 in Kildare so no county men, senior or underage and the pre-season stuff also hit during colleges football.

Like give club lads the start of the year off too. Start the club leagues in April/ May, club championship in July (even if All Ireland's get pushed back a bit) and there's still lots of time.

If we go messing with the split season in general it will be for the few, and not the many. If we went All Ireland semis in footballl on the August bank holidays and then 2 weeks to the Final...

There will only be 4 counties involved by mid-July. So, the vast majority should be starting then. Then when the lull comes in September there's county finals galore all round the country.

All Roscommon Club Leagues finish mid July now, not in November, or 18th December or next March or sometime unless we forget about it altogether.
Club Championships start 2nd weekend August.
Players know the fixtures in advance and can plan their lives accordingly, not waiting for a message on a Monday night as to who or where they might be playing at the weekend.
