We aren't as anonymous as we may like to believe.

Think before you post! Just good advice IMO.

General discussion / Grand Slam Match
March 15, 2009, 10:11:20 PM
Will Ireland's Call really inspire the Irish lads?

Remember this?

I reckon that song won Scotland a grand slam.

General discussion / Avoid cliches like the plague!
February 05, 2009, 12:33:33 PM
God I hate some of the awful cliches people throw into conversations, especially at work meetings.

I was at a meeting the other day and the HR Director finished off her presentation with the immoral words - "at the end of the day, the bottom line is you will catch more fish with honey than with vinegar!"

Some people wouldn't even recognise a cliche if they found it in their soup.

General discussion / Sad songs

Sad songs are an Irish tradition. Which are the best?

I like this one even though it isn't Irish.

GAA Discussion / Best excuses for missing training.
October 22, 2008, 04:38:32 PM
I just got a text from one of our minors saying he couldn't train tonight because his sister was going to her school formal. I text him back asking how that affected him and he replied that he had to be at the house to wave bye bye to her when she gets into the limo. WTF!

Best one I've heard for a while. Any others?

GAA Discussion / Who are the team of the decade?
September 22, 2008, 09:33:17 PM
Who are the team of the decade? Many of the news papers are saying it is Tyrone. What do people think? Tyrone have won 3 All Irelands, Kerry have won 4. Armagh and Galway have 1 each.

Which team will be remembered as the greatest team of the 2000s?

Hurling Discussion / Club Championship results
September 15, 2008, 02:37:18 PM
How are the club championship going around the country?

Cork I see it's Sarsfield's v Bride Rovers in the final.
Antrim - Cushendall play the winners of Loughgeil/Dunloy replay in the final and in Down, Portaferry play Ballygalget in the final.

What's happening elsewhere?

Croke Pk are considering asking each Co Board to nominate a singer from their county to sing Amhrán na bhFiann at big matches in Croke Park.
I think this is a daft idea when you see the "talent" that's available but which singers could be nominated by each county? Here's a couple of possibilities.

In Ulster, Monaghan would have to nominate Big Tom. Who else represents all that is good about Monaghan – country music and tax evasion?

Donegal – Danial O'Donnell? Every Mammy in Ireland would be fightin for a ticket.

Derry – It would have to be Eurovision winner Danna. She will do anything to get back on a national stage.

Tyrone would go for Hugo Duncan and cause a riot.

Down could have Van Morrison – if he bothers to turn up.

With Tommy Makem having passed on who could Armagh nominate?

In Leinster the Dubs would go with Brush Sheilds and embarrass themselves again.

The Corrs could represent Louth and Declan Nerney Longford.

Have Westmeath anyone to replace the late Joe Dolan?

GAA Discussion / Classic GAA video clips

This is a real classic. Hard to belive it was so long ago now. Rarely can a county have enjoyed a win so much.

According to the Irish News a former Unionist Councillor had joined FF. After hearing Bertie evidence yesterday he reckoned it was time he got on the gravy train.

A former Ulster Unionist councillor has caused shock by joining Fianna Fail.
Businessman Harvey Bicker from south Down confirmed last night to RTE that he has joined Fianna Fail, making it likely that he is the first ever unionist to go join a republican party.

General discussion / The price of drink
February 22, 2008, 04:47:26 PM
Yesterday the British Medical Association called for an end to cheap drink - see link below. Today my local has stuck 15p on a pint!! It's now £2.75 for a pint of Guinness.

Has any other pub done this? Seems like an over reaction to the BMA report or they are using the health angle to increase profits. £2.60 was hardly cheap to begin with. No doubt it will go to £3.00 a pint with the budget in March.

I have cut back the visits to the pub to Friday evening and Monday evening and I don't think I can cut back much more.

General discussion / Should Pints of Guinness be banned?
February 15, 2008, 12:57:38 PM
I think pints of Guinness should be banned.

I reckon we would all drink a whole lot less if we used those little half pint glasses they use on the Continent.

General discussion / Bargains - alcohol.
January 20, 2008, 07:18:57 PM
I was in Armagh town centre on Thursday. I had to go due to work. I noticed a big sign outside the office licence beside the Drumarg housing estate - Buckfast 2 bottles for £5.

Is there a better bargain available any where in Ireland? I texted all the Armagh people I know to let them know about it but they knew about it already.
