Yes, that is what I thought the whole point of Artemis is. A test and practice project to see if a manned Mars mission could be feasible.

He should be fined a week's wages for that.

Complete arrogance and utter disrespect for the opponent which let a team with nothing to lose back into a game which his team had just got comfortable in.

Unless you happen to be brown.

Are you brown? Or just want to be?
Neither, but I'd prefer a world where brown people can walk up the street without being detained by a bunch of masked lunatics....

Careful what you wish for...

Meaning?

One Battle After Another

Fun, action film. DiCaprio is good as a washed-up, stoned, former leftist terrorist trying to raise his daughter under an assumed identity, but Sean Penn steals the show as a far right colonel out to cover his past tracks as he tries to get accepted for membership in a wealthy, secret, elite white supremacist club. The background stuff is very on topic for what's going on in the US with Trump's immigration round-ups.

Bob Weir, The Grateful Dead.

78, after a cancer battle.

Saw him just two years ago in concert. Was still singing and playing guitar brilliantly.

Quote from: DaleCooper on January 09, 2026, 06:21:40 PMBodycam footage now out[from shooters POV].

The ICE agent will have his case dismissed as justifiable self defence.

Children are deprived of their mother.

Tragic and pointless.

It WILL be dismissed as justifiable self defense, or it SHOULD be dismissed?

Quote from: Orior on January 09, 2026, 12:27:54 PMApparently MarĂa Corina Machado is meeting Trump next week. She will donate her Nobel prize to him.

He will accept it and then immediately install her as president of Venuzuala.

Are there any Trump supporters on GAA Board?

Has Trump no self-awareness whatsoever?

Is he really that narcissistic and clueless that he doesn't see how pathetic and needy he is behind all the cruelty, bigotry and corruption?

Such a small man.

Quote from: square_ball on January 08, 2026, 09:55:36 PMMartinelli is some tr**p. A Liverpool player should have filled him.

He misread the situation and he will regret it.

Surely understandable though given how often players fake injury?

Yeah, blood was up and he thought Bradley was wasting time.

Definitely owes him an apology once he calms down.

That'll do. Gabriel almost nicked it from that last corner, but Arsenal created f**k all the whole game. Slot's safety-first ball worked well in the second half. Liverpool were at 75% possession (2nd half) with about 15 to go.

Looked a nasty one for Bradley. Hopefully not cruciate.

Need to get Frimpong going more on the break.

Quote from: Captain Scarlet on January 08, 2026, 04:54:29 PMJ70 not to dismiss one of the largest protests ever over there, but all the batshit stuff has been happening since. They need to really demolish the GOP in the midterms, but the sad thing is I don't think that will happen. There's MAGA, but plenty of normals vote for a party that is a borderline cult.

I know it's not in their mindset but a national strike or boycotts would be something to do.

Part of the problem is that division and rancour is pure oxygen to Trump. He revels in it due to his hold on the US right. Strikes develop, and you have the entire GOP, Fox News and their imitators, the right wing podcasters, and as of last week, CBS News, labeling everyone a bunch of paid, unpatriotic, communinist agitators. Trump will delight in it as a means to solidify his base ahead of the elections. Transport and shipping shut down? Grocery shelves bare? Blame those crazy commie transgender leftists.

I think peaceful people on the street in massive numbers is the realistic way, although boycotts of certain MAGA-supporting people and companies will definitely help too. The backlash against Disney in the form of cancelled subscriptions is why Kimmel was back on the air within a week.

Quote from: Wildweasel74 on January 08, 2026, 04:08:34 PMWhere ole Whitey to defend the undefensible. This killing, Greenland, where the drugs suddenly gone to in Venezuela. The normal defence of the Democrats would do the same. hasnt the same ring to it. If Trump had been brought up on charges of causing a riot and insurrection on Jan the 6th, instead trying to get tax evasion in New York. I dont think the US would be the mess it currently is.

Yep, Mitch McConnell and Merrick Garland have a lot to answer for.

Quote from: Captain Scarlet on January 08, 2026, 02:59:44 PMBut the problem is the money men behind the Super Pacs just see dollar signs and no-one who looks like them having any grief from ICE or law enforcement, so their paid for poloticians won't pipe up.

I know the party in power often take a kicking in the mid-terms, but in any normal country they would be DESTROYED with all this stuff going on. I mean it'd be a wipeout - but it won't.

In terms of people hitting the streets, they will just be dismissed as Antifa and the news outlets will interview a few headbangers who can be ignored.

My tiny brain cannot process all this shite going on!

Seven million came out back in October for just the No Kings protests. I was in Times Square and it was jammed for blocks.

And yeah, they tried to dismiss it all as a bunch of paid protesters, but outside of the MAGAt base, it didn't take.

If that murder yesterday is a sign of what's to come, I'd say the No Kings protests would easily be exceeded. And it IS an election year, at least for now.

Quote from: J70 on January 08, 2026, 11:50:45 AMMost of the gun nuts would be Trumpers, but yeah, with more guns than people in the country, it would not be hard for some misguided, leftist moron to get his hands on one and try to target one of them.
And if ICE continues to murder American citizens with impunity backed by the state... what do they do? Stay indoors, don't protest, sup it up..

I don't think even Trump could get away with repeated murders of peaceful protesters. But I do know that the murder of even one of these ICE officers will unleash holy hell from his government.
Who's going to do anything about it? Remember they don't see it as murder..

Indeed, that's an optimistic statement.

However, I do think a couple similar murders would bring people onto the streets way above what we've seen so far. And it would presumably force at least a few GOP politicians to publically disavow what they're doing.

We've had a few GOP senators come out and rule out the US using the military to take Greenland. Might seem obvious and minimalistic, but that's a lot more resistance than you usually get from the Republicans, who have bent over on everything except for the four who joined the Dems to force the (slow) release of the Epstein files.
