Quote from: rodney trotter on February 25, 2026, 05:15:05 PMOne of the Gaa president wants a scaled back Casement which would suit antrims needs. Burns was too intent with a vanity project for which they are 100m short of funding.

Perhaps you can characterise it as a vanity project, but this was supposed to be of benefit to all 6 counties rather than a free stadium for Antrim.

In the 1950s Antrim could build Casement in the first place, now they just want a handy ground with half the capacity paid for by someone else.

9 counties, surely?

A 30,000+  stadium in Belfast never made  much  sense, financially or geographically.

Totally disagree. Easy access for almost everyone because of excellent motorway routes for all. Compare it to the shithole that is clones with the pathetic road infrastructure. Clones is still a decent ground on a good day but it's disgraceful in this day and age that on a wet day 80 of 90% of the spectators will get a complete soaking. That's not good enough for big games like Ulster finals. The sooner casement is built the better.

Definitely. Also if it's not overturned a second red card later this season would result in double the suspension so much better to get this thrown out.

Nothing snidely about it. If a man can't make the Swatragh team who are a bottom 6 club in the senior league, how can he be deemed good enough for our county team. Absolutely nothing against the lad but he's clearly not good enough.

If he wasn't Anthony Tohills son would we even be having this conversation.

Let's stop talking shite on here lads. Tohill is a very good player as we saw in the sigerson. He's also a good leader and the very experienced QUB management picked him as captain. He also did reasonably well for Derry last year and was developing. He's more than good enough to play for swatragh so let's cut out all the bullshit. Having said all that Meenagh has made the judgement that he's not quite good enough for the Derry panel at the moment and I for one am satisfied with that judgment. Let's just get behind the lads selected. Roll on Saturday and a tough game against Kildare.

Deep down the vast majority of his supporters will be silently cheering this. Not all of his supporters are racist in fairness but every single racist in the US will be a trump fan and there are plenty of them.

Quote from: oakleaflad on January 31, 2026, 08:04:21 AMLads there's been a lot of clamour for him in here but you can't shy away from the fact he played in 2 McKenna cup games and was poor. Carried the ball into tackles and both his passing and shooting was erratic.
I'm willing to give Meenagh the benefit of the doubt to be honest that he either just isn't sharp enough yet or hasn't stood out enough amongst those at intercounty level to warrant a start so far.
If he ends up starting and playing a blinder then brilliant. I just feel we've always excuses for someone or another who isn't playing. The overwhelming majority of the best players in the county are on the panel. There has to be some element of trust that the management team know what they're doing.

Agree with this. The management wants to win matches and they're going to pick the best team for that. If anyone is playing well in training or gets a chance and plays well they'll be on the team. They're in place, they're experienced and we have to trust their judgement.

It's definitely implying that he identified Kerry's weaknesses. Any way not sure it's the best advert as we were still beat

Fair enough, we did play well that day though. Caused kerry lots of problems and unlucky not to win.

Lads, we've had 2 and a half years of instability and chaos. This year is all about stabilising and developing the squad. Keeper played well today and Mcateer will benefit from his first start. Good to see Matthew Downey back and fit, he did well. Mckinless played really well but our key players who missed the McKenna cup were rusty and that cost us. Fair play to Meath, they're a good side and the ref allowed them to push the boundaries.

Shea taking a lot of criticism here but I actually thought he had a very solid game. He made 2 mistakes with short kickouts and they were punished but that's the way Derry are going to play and no matter who's in goals we'll be conceding a few of those through the season. We don't have the really big men of 6 feet 5 or 6 who we can bomb the ball out to all the time. We didn't win any games at all last season under the new rules and a good bit can be put down to a change in management but also the new rules regarding kickouts really don't suit us especially when a team gets a squeeze on. Even a team as big and physical as Armagh got hammered v Kerry last year when they didn't win a kickout for 20 minutes. We'll improve with big Dan and Rogers back but we're still small compared to a few of the top teams.

Why is this in the far right thread BTW?
Yes. Only Grok allows you take a picture of a child and turn that into a hardcore pornographic video.

Because of it's owner.

Because of trump being all over the epstein files the far right seem to have flipped and are now extremely protective of the rights of paedophiles. The issue on grok is just one example but led by musk and trump it's quite a turnaround.

Quote from: Ryan O on December 22, 2025, 11:31:04 AMHave alot of sympathy for Slaughneil yesterday after watching that. They looked way off the standard of Loughrea who bar a miracle I don't think will be fit for Ballygunner.

Ulster hurling is dire at the minute and it doesn't help Slaughneil trying to compete at all, realistically they haven't had a decent competitive game since All Ireland Semi final in 2024. St Johns done great winning Antrim but were miles off Slaughneil standard.

Antrim championship is competitive but its a competitive poor standard, once these teams go to Croke Park everything goes to a speed they can't cope with. The hurling gaels of Ulster constantly say they aren't getting the help, I love to ask what they want? Surely its up to the clubs to raise the standard if they wany to compete.
Dunloy beat St Thomas in Croke park 3 years ago. Ulster clubs are competing, yesterday was an outlier in recent results, Loughrea are no bad team and won't be far away from Ballygunner
They aren't competing, yes there are results that push against the norm but overall Ulster teams are well behind in standard.
Athletic grounds is probably the best place for football in the country but for fast free flowing hurling its a disaster.
The pitch is too tight and the game turns into a hacking match. Yes this may create excitement but All Irelands are won on big pitches where the ball moves fast.
I thought Slaughneil would beat Loughrea on Sunday based mainly off it was in Parnell Park thats another bog hole, once Loughrea matched they're intensity they were up against it.
Loughrea manager said before throw in "we have to match them for dirty ball" after that everyone knew it wasn't going to be a hurling classic.

Personally don't see this massive push that hurling folk claim they are doing, coaching seminars throughout the country  are full of underage coaches/managers doing everything they can to improve football, and the standard continues to rise. Social media is full of analysis, stats, drills, advice and 90% is all football based. Why do the hurling coaches/ enthusiasts not do the same?
Instead of saying they aren't getting the support needed perhaps it might be time to look internally.
You come out with some tripe Ryan.

Cushendall & SN played in Athletic Grounds last year was one of the games of the year, skill level off the charts mainly because pitch was hard & weather was far drier this time last year.

As for Ulster teams not competing:
2024 - SARS 0-18 : SN 0-17
2023 - OLG  1-17 : Cushendall 1-16
2022 - Dunloy 1-14 : St Thomas 0-13
       Ballyhale 1-22 : Dunloy  1-15
2021 - Ballygunner 2-19 : SN 1-17
2020 - Ballyhale 2-24 : SN 2-19

Which of these games did the Ulster teams not compete Ryan? Plenty of good hurling coaches who travel the country trying to spread the game, maybe they just need more "gurus" to teach a hand passing drill and charge £30 a pop like these generous football coaches doing it for the love of the game

Well said Derry man, Ryan seems to love getting in an unnecessary dig or 2 and trying to disguise it as intelligent analysis. Put well in his place this time.

Hard to disagree with a lot but for me McCloskey & Glass have to be in for winning all stars

Haven't thought about it at all but to leave out clucker is ridiculous. He should definitely be in before mcgrogan. I'd have skinner in there somewhere also, probably ahead of Mcbride. Hard to believe geard o'kane isn't in there either, he'd be a cert for me. Paul mcflynn also. How mcgrogan is ahead of those lads is incredible.
