General discussion / Re: The DUP thread
February 10, 2026, 06:31:27 AM
Not necessarily a swipe at the DUP but more Stormont in general in terms of this is an example of how ineffective it is as an institution in that you have a situation that can be actioned which would make an impact on peoples lives however they have supposedly 'ran out of time'.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cx2gllrzn1do

These are just ordinary people who like the majority of this do not give 2 fs about red, white and blue or green, white and gold however have been let down badly by those who are supposed to look out for our best interests.

Quote from: Milltown Row2 on February 04, 2026, 08:52:42 AMThere is no, zero attempt to do practical politics, I'm bored or numb at the shoddy work being claimed they do. If they were being assessed within a job in the private sector they'd be sacked, incompetent, not fit for purpose

Is there a department being run with any sort of efficiency? Can anyone hold their heads high and say they are doing a good job? Surely they have targets to meet?

Surely London should just close it altogether and sack these clowns

They would not even get beyond their probationary period.

Quote from: Sportacus on February 03, 2026, 02:46:58 PMDemographically it's inching forward, but the absolute state of Sinn Fein in Stormont, they literally haven't a clue. Big O'Dowd Finance Minister, to say he's out of his depth wouldn't do it justice.  It'll happen in spite of them, not because of them.

I imagine the Shinners behind closed doors will be happy to kick the UI can down the road for a few more generations, a lot of them would be completely found out south of the border.  O'Dowd and a lot of them not in the same league as Pearse Doherty or Eoin O'Broin.  Why the Shinners have Pat Cullen sitting on the sidelines doing nothing is beyond me.

Westminster does not give 2Fs about this place and if Farage gets into nr 10 he will probably push on accordingly in this regard.

While I imagine they would not shout it from the roof tops I can not imagine Dublin would be keen to take on the wee 6 from an economic perspective https://www.rte.ie/news/ireland/2025/0415/1507658-esri-economic-growth/.

Quote from: Milltown Row2 on February 03, 2026, 08:26:08 AMIt's about time to close the place down, the tit for tat politics needs to be done and a clear out of the MLA's

I've no confidence in any of the people up there to actually see through one flipping project

Pull the pin

Agree 100% if you asked the folks on the hill to list metrics regarding day to day life they have had a positive contribution to in the last 25 years you would be waiting a while.  Stormont is basically a gravy train that a lot of people have jumped on and have brought with them their family members and all other sorts of hanger ons with everybody filling their pockets.

There was only ever going to be one outcome here as a guy like this would know where the bodies are buried so to speak and if he went down he would make he would take plenty with him.

Any parent living in an urban area who lets their child have / buy them a quad or a scrambler needs a good slap.

The absolute height of stupidity.

Quote from: playwiththewind1st on January 25, 2026, 04:09:26 PMLabour's idea of what 'governing' actually entails is so appalling that they are starting to make the cretins at Stormont look good.

Labour might be bad but they are not that bad, the folks on the hill are in a league of their own.

Tates Avenue had a firm delivering booze and fegs at one time out the boot. Wonder if its still a thing.

Dial-a+drink.

They would have been plan B back in the 90s if you had no success with knocking the side door of the Hatfield at 1am looking for a few cans.
Grub from the hatch in the Shell garage and cans from The Hat. Used to be queues outside the place in the 90s.

Good times 😎🤓

Simpler times!

As a country boy moving to the big smoke, the lower Ormeau at 2am was no place for the faint hearted!

You could add Bradbury Place to that, always great craic around McDonalads & Bishops.  Some nights you could have had more 'success' in these places than in Laverys or the M Club.
