Have to say was one of the weirdest nights 'entertainment' ever.

As a nation we just seem to jump from the current event to the next one no matter what it is.

I'm sure she will enjoy her retirement now in the US.

I have had no  interest really in Katie Taylor's career or  women's boxing.  I didn't even know it was live until  someone told  me a few hours before, so I  tuned in purely for the occasion.

It was a strange night. A  bit like St Patrick's day, up for the match and BBC NI's All Ireland final half time celebrity chat,  all rolled into one  big weird extravaganza.

The boxing itself wasn't  great. The commentators seemed to see  Taylor  punches landing that nobody else could see.  Pili didn't offer much going forward but she kept Taylor out particularly in early rounds.

Then you had the crowds  shots.  Fake tan, turkey teeth, lip fillers (And that was just the men), selfies/recording  everything on their phones.  Although AI finals are  the same now.

I heard €150 a ticket? Madness

Westlife were great  though. Are  they on the Top 3 list yet?

This day 1992 Serie A aired on Channel 4 for the first time. 3 million tuned in to watch Sampdoria draw 3-3 with Lazio.


Who remembers the tune?

Serie A was considered the cream of football  then, but in reality it  was  probably dire enough stuff. It was the big names  that drew me in  though, Gullit, Vialli, Van Basten ,  Lombardo, Ravenelli, Baggio,   Rijkaard, and a strange fascination as to  how Gazza (and Platt, Des Walker) was getting on. And later,  Paul  Ince.

RTE had a highlights show  on a Monday night too. Theme tune  brings me right back.

Just switched over for the pure cringe Martin Morrissey and Michael Flatley piece.

A lot of falseness under Flatley's  Plastic Paddy  persona. I bet he's a right c**t  behind it all

The economic factors are pointing towards  a UI. The north  being  better off   in  with the Republic, within the EU etc. we all know the usual unionist position, they'd rather be  poor in a UK than rich is a UI. To  alot of people, that sounds bonkers

What if the roles  were reversed though? Let's say a  border poll won, Ireland reunited. Economies of Britain and Ireland reversed in a few years.  Britain thriving, Ireland less so. Would nationalists consider rejoining the UK? (As a 6 county state, or all of Ireland). Would nationalists then utter the same phrases? Rather be poor in a reunited Ireland  than   join them hoors again?

Is a  reunited Ireland the "right" result? What you need to remember is a border poll is a two  way thing.  It could also be used to  strengthen the union. I actually think a border poll  in the next few years would suit unionists . We clearly aren't prepared (some don't clearly ever want to be), and I don't think a border poll would win if it happens in the next 4-5 years. Unionists should  use that result to kick the can down the road for another 25 years or so

The Scots voted in 2014. That's 12 years , and  when will  they go again? I doubt it'll be within the next decade. That's a  generation.
