GAA Discussion / The Frongach All Ireland
March 29, 2016, 03:28:20 PM
In the year that is in it!
I heard the radio documentary
http://www.rte.ie/radio1/doconone/2016/0322/776610-the-all-ireland-behind-barbed-wire/

concerning the playing of the Wolfe Tone cup, then an  important competition in Frongoch. Kerry were led by the famous Dick Fitzgerald and they played that GAA hothouse, Louth, in the prison camp.

http://www.balls.ie/gaa/the-incredible-story-behind-the-1916-all-ireland-played-behind-barbed-wire-in-wales/328924

Apparently football dominated in the camp as the Brits didn't wish to have all of the inmates equipped with hurls.

General discussion / Gardai warning to single men
February 29, 2016, 03:15:21 PM
Good tweet.

Gardai in Naas are warning single men to be on the lookout today for any women who may approach them in a sinister fashion. They may be in posession of a small, ring-sized jewellery box and might look like they are about to throw themselves to their knees. Incidents like this last happened in the area almost exactly four years ago and the unfortunate male victims still haven't recovered. There is no escape so just take it like a..... well like a man really. This is not a matter that the local Garda station can help you with so either run and hide, don't leave the house or else just say yes!! Let us know if there are any victims locally to this 29th February onslaught and good luck to any "attackers"

Be careful out there, if you are possible "victim"

As noted on the modern music thread, not all the old stuff was good, although the average was better than the present.

RTE have a programme with a sting operation with some councillors offering to help for a generous contribution.

Fair play to RTE for doing the legwork here.

General discussion / Who do you resemble?
April 23, 2015, 10:28:17 PM
Go to Google images https://images.google.ie/
click on the camera icon, upload a head and shoulders of yourself, see who you resemble.

I'm not sure if this algorithm is much use, with different pics I get quite different results, including Obama, John Major, Bill Clinton, Kim Jong-Un, Sammy Wilson, Michael McGimpsey and frighteningly Jimmy Saville and Eddie Hobbs.

It seems that these people look like me, so now you know

General discussion / Murder case

Fair play to the Gardai for getting a conviction of Graham Dwyer.

http://www.rte.ie/news/2015/0327/690094-graham-dwyer-court/

If you are going to murder someone, sending a lot of text messages about your wish to do so is probably not the best idea, no phone is anonymous.
