Somewhat depressing having my weekly GAA chats with friends & colleagues today from Moneyglass, Cargin, St.Brigids and indeed my own club members.

To summarise, everyone cant wait until Antrim County men finish up to get back to their clubs, but the club league is a pile of shite and we all want it finished up as soon as.  ;D  ???  ::)  :-\  :'(  :(

MR2 was right. We love a good moan about everything and anything. 8)

Has the balance shifted this year? Cargin finally now well back in amongst (if not a bit behind) a few of the traditional chasing pack?

I thought you took him calling you a clampit really well ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D lol

;D  Its all friendly rivalry DK! (sometimes  ;) )

I'm not saying they are over the hill, but the chasing pack have made big strides in closing the gap and potentially gaining an edge on them in my opinion.

Caesar, I dont think they're missing too many at the minute outside of shivers and mcnabb, so I don't buy that.

Stick to the hurling/ladies football if you believe Creggan would have been pumped by Dunloy

Good league side

;D And not a bad championship side either as Cargin know all too well!

There's more strength in depth in the panel this year so time will tell for championship. No doubting there have been positive signs so far. BUT, it's only league.

Quote from: imtommygunn on April 23, 2026, 08:56:05 AMSome interesting enough results with Creggan and Cargin wins probably standout. Ballymena look to have had a poor start too. St Johns are probably benefiting from McBride not being on the county panel (though I think a few county boys plated last night too?)

Morgan and Boyle came on for the Musgrave crew

So what? why shouldn't they play? it's weeks until they'll be out with County again. Makes sense. Did Cargin not have County men on too going by match report!

Quote from: NatSoSaff on April 20, 2026, 10:56:58 AMThis tripe about being x number of years off Derry in terms of conditioning, where does this waffle come from? They all looked fairly similar to me on Saturday, big strong athletic players across both panels. Where are you pulling these conditioning figures from? Have you seen test scores or max reps lifts or whatever it is they measure this stuff by?
It's a cop out. Those Antrim lads have been in gyms and on programs since their early teens like every other county. Derry players have come up through a much better standard of club coaching (by and large), much better/more competitive leagues, championships and fixture structures, and as a result they continually play at a much higher level on a sustained and consistent basis. That's it. Not the extra 2 mm Paudie Mcgrogans jersey sleeve stretches in comparison to Nial burns.

Wake up.

They are conditioned from secondary school up! The levels they play within just the schools never mind clubs is higher, the county has been bar one year in the top two leagues for many years, they obviously have better strength and conditioning when they are still fit after 65 minutes to run up and down the pitch and put in tackles, they have to be playing at that standard..

But I'm getting from your post you feel that's bullshit and Antrim should have been closer to derry or even winning?

We can't get out of div 4 this year but be in contention with Derry?

How in Gods name are you getting that I think we should have been closer to Derry? Just because I expressed my opinion that the conditioning excuse was bogus?

We shouldn't have been any closer to them. They are better footballers! A world of levels apart. That's it, not much deeper to dig unfortunately. They've been better coached as young kids right the way up, playing in stronger competitions, stronger schools against better opposition. Those are just the facts.

Be 20+ points in it Antrim a rotten team

'Rotten'? really.

Anyway, whishing the very best of luck to the lads tomorrow. It's a proud day getting to represent your family, club and community lining out for Antrim in the Ulster championship. There are levels to this game and unfortunately these are 2 teams at the opposite ends of the scale. All we can hope for is each man to play to his potential, and why cant that be the case? Despite some tough draws in recent years in the championship, on more than one occasion these men have given that.
