Ryan O'Toole was just a fresh faced kid when he scored that last minute goal v Tyrone, now he's a man and an outstanding inspiration on the pitch.

Unreal on pitch interview with Kieran Hughes as he cooly delivers a masterclass level headed  analysis of the game.

Brilliant performance over the whole game from Scotstown, well deserved in extra time.

Three man breach
That swishing the grass motion of the ref's arm indicates a 3 man breach?

General discussion / Re: Irish neutrality

That's right, why bother with an army at all because we're gonna be blitzed in any event ::)

Ireland could at least have a military that equals a relatively small republic such as Estonia with a population of 1.3m. Could we not manage that?
How is having an effective defence force contradicting a policy of neutrality unless neutrality also means bend over or turn the other cheek when a challenge comes?
For starters the country need maritime security and resources to maintain same and get funding for protection of undersea cables.

Nigel Farage's Russian Influence Advent Calendar

Open the button on the 25th with great caution,  it's a contender for the 360 degree pivot of the year.

Quote from: Milltown Row2 on December 09, 2025, 04:21:21 PMThe ref brought it to where he thought was 50 meters, but we don't know what Geaney would have done had the ref brought it further, as he still could have opted for the 2 pointer with the wind, they did take a few in the second half so within their range.

If you had a player in your team capable of taking a two pointer, and this one to win the game, do you take the safe option of a one pointer or go win the Munster final?
Impossible to know what he'd have done- you'd need to be a ballsy f**ker to go for the 2 pointer!!
I thought it was the equivalent of the ref asking a leading question by stopping his forward run before the arc.
There is no way to guess what Geaney would have chosen to do had the ref dandered a bit further with the ball, in the same vein we don't know what would have transpired in Dingle's last play  had the ball not been brought forward.
The ref called it as he saw it, I don't think he did a lot wrong, the Cork player was going to ground before he was helped by a push on his way down, nr 5 didn't hand the ball back to the nearest player and should a ref be required to have a natural laser measuring ability for exact 50m measurement?

Quote from: Main Street on December 08, 2025, 11:19:33 PMThe Barrs player with the ball chucked the ball over the Dingle player's shoulder who came to get it, it caused at most a split second delay, if any. Regardless, doesn't the rule only refer to the player who did the foul and was in possession of the ball, who must hand it back to the nearest opposition player, it doesn't refer to other players who just happen to have the ball in hand.

The 50m punishment wasn't for handing the ball back too slowly, it was because after the ref blew a free for Dingle and the ball was loose, the Barrs player grabbed the ball.
This is one of the reasons the rule was brought in in the first place - it was very common, when the ref blew for a free and the ball was loose, the opposition player would grab the ball to stop the opponent taking a quick free.

You could argue the Barrs player thought the whistle was for a free for his team, but intent doesn't come into it, every player could argue "Oh! I thought it was our free".
Plus the ref was very clear. He immediately signalled the over-carrying gesture and pointed to the Barrs goalposts.
With the current rules, every player should have the discipline not to pick up a loose ball after the whistle has been blown until they've checked which team has received a free.
Under the current rules, the ref got the decision correct w.r.t. moving the ball 50m forward. He even measured the distance spot on.
However the free for overcarrying is dubious, not that I think he was fouled- I just don't think Maguire took too many steps.

I think it's more obvious that the nr5 was penalised for not "handing the ball back in full" to the nearest opposition player, it was when the ball (clumsily) hit the floor  that the ref made the bring the ball forward motion.
The least likely is that nr 5 was penalised for picking the ball up of the ground.

Re the hand it back rule, on hearing the whistle the  player in possession should just have to  simply place the ball on the spot on the ground and get the hell out of dodge if the foul is against him.

In contrast to some of our neighbors, Monaghan men such as Darren Hughes and Karl O'Connell would arise from a career deathbed  to put the county shirt on just one more time. Darren was the first this year to retire aged 38, then came fleet of foot Karl O'Connell retired age 37.  The 3rd to retire Kieran Duffy, a young pup by Monaghan retirement standards at aged just 35.  When their time comes may these men of farney iron be buried with their shirt on.

The hand it back rule and punishment is the shíttiest rule in the book, it alone should have torpedoed Gavin's presidential campaign.

Quote from: Main Street on December 03, 2025, 12:37:51 AMPBP  statement at the time of Zelensky's Dail visit,

called "Putin's brutal invasion".

But it added 'that it had always rejected the idea of a military solution to this conflict and had opposed calls for military escalation'.

I take it that the super brains at PBP opine that defending your country from "Putin's brutal invasion" is a "military escalation"?
What else  do the PBP propose how a country can defend itself against such a "brutal invasion" other than by all military means at their disposal? And what do the PBP propose that Ukraine do instead of military action to defend itself against this "brutal invasion"?  sit down on the road holding sunflowers? or just surrender wholesale  to the demands of the "brutal invader"?
Possibly the PBP have the idea that the countries that support Ukraine should non-violently sanction the crap out of the "brutal invading" Russia, grab all their EU banked assets, block their floating potential toxic discharge  ships from sailing the oceans and do all within their means to scuttle Russia's economy in order to get them to back off Ukraine?

But will we ever know what the PBP actually have in mind to stop this "brutal invasion"?  What is this unspoken plan that the PBP have, apart from a vague bumper sticker slogan?

It's an odd thing for you to contend. Here's a serious question that will seriously undermine your credibility and the point you make. The people in Irish politics who are fanatics for Ukrainian militarism, the journalists from the mainstream media who are fanatical for Ukrainian militarism were some of the biggest advocates for doing nothing during sectarian pogroms in the north. Indeed the leader in the 26 went on live TV during the last general election and wholly blamed the IRA for the trouble.

This is where people like you badly let yourselves down. Your past positions show your current stance on Ukraine to be a phony one. It's nothing to do with invasions or imperialism or freedoms, you just think the West has the right to rule the world.

It will be interesting to see how outraged you get about the forthcoming happenings in Venezuela. The yanks up to their usual tricks again and it's not the first time in Venezuela yet you'll still probably deny they played a major role in destabilizing Ukraine and setting the motions in play for a change to a Western aligned gov which they knew would provoke Russia.

People should be aware that what has happened in Ukraine is a proxy war between two imperialist superpowers - Russia and the US - who are fervently supported by the EU/UK. The Ukrainians are the unfortunate victims in it all.

It's incredible that people can say with very valid grounds that say the Russians are an imperialist superpower, who have a dictator who should be trialled in the Hague as leader and who have committed war crimes in Ukraine yet still be accused of being pro Russian all because you are critical of the West and the US involvement in creating and throwing accelerant on a war in Ukraine.

The level of shilling and smear neo libs get involved in to deflect the role of the West in this conflict is mind-blowing.
So you are offering absolutely nothing to the question about what PBP opine as a response to in their words "Putin's brutal invasion", except irrelevant drivel.

How Yarmouk refugee camp became the worst place in Syria
The Guardian

Can you answer me how things are better for Syrians with the CIA trained, former ISIS 2nd in command, former FBI most wanted, now US backed leader Jolani in charge?

It's a genuine question. No doubt Assad was evil and a dictator but the same people aghast at him don't seem to be as bothered by a depraved ISIS extremist now ruling the roost who has

The world is a funny place I suppose. So many contradictions.

Syria is not trendy, Palestine is trendy, Gaza deaths matter, Syrian don't

Though you can add in the continuous daily murders and genocide's throughout Africa..

I believe you misunderstand the point.

Syrian deaths mattered when they had a Russian aligned madman dictator in charge but they no longer matter to those same people now some US backed ISIS fanatic has taken charge and agreed to be a Western puppet.

Generally you will find those most vocal on Ukraine aren't that bothered about Gaza. I find that the most incredible of contradictions. There is no parallel to the suffering the Palestinians have to endure with what Ukrainians have had to. It's not close, it is not comparable but some people believe the media outlets who tell them it was Hamas who bombed a hospital 2 years ago and talked about babies being raped and incinerated in ovens by Palestinians.

Your Piers Morgans of this world are very heavily compromised. Yeah we have posters parroting that complete propaganda and hypocrisy on this forum which I find chilling and scarey. Thankfully they are a minority in the population but worryingly it is the mindset of centre right neo liberal politicians who run governments. Amoral people who are bought and paid for.
In that picture of pure human horror are tens of thousands of starving Palestinian refugees  who had previously fled from Israel's oppression, who built their residential and business 'enclave' in Syria starting out from tents. The host dictator backed by Russia, financially and militarily, laid a vicious siege (a total blockade along with bombing the place to bits) in order to starve out the refugees on this week in 2012. It is incomprehensible to me  that a claimed Palestinian supporter who evidently has no knowledge of this genocidal act and instead ignorantly spouts Kremlin propaganda about al-Julani and doesn't know the difference between ISIS and al- Qaeda. al-Julani was aligned with al-Qaeda until 2016, never mind being CIA trained. That's pure and simple hogwash peddled to gullible muppets by a spurned and humiliated  Kremlin who exclaimed 'CIA coup' 'CIA coup' 'CIA coup'.
Ironic perhaps that al-Julani himself and his family were refugees from Israeli aggression when forced to flee from their Golan Heights homeland.

And then we had an earlier comment on this atrocity enacted against this long established sophisticated Palestinian refugee society, who blamed Israel for forcing the Palestinians out from their homeland in the first place and not the host terrorist nation who did the vicious deeds.
