The main reasons i would say for opposition to the maze in order of importance is

1) Its in the arse of nowhere.
2) Its too big, both the stadium and the pitch dimmensions
3) It has the associated conflict resolution/shrine centre.

Virtually all footy fans are primarily concerned with 1 and 2 and view opposition to 3 as merely a means to an end if it galvanishes the politicans to do something about it. All of the fans i've spoken to about it don't give a hoot about there being a conflict resolution centre at the maze as long as a stadium fit for purpose is built in Belfast.

So you cant get a drink? How about using Clones?

Have you ever been?

Yes. Played there too.

My point is that Fearon in his righteous rage gives out that the IFA won't 'share' with the GAA, but nothing about rule 42.

What mocking the OWC lads over what seems to me is a perfectly legitimate reason to object to the Maze plan - its in the arse of nowhere, and yes, that means not being able to have a pint, achieves is beyond me.

T Fearon

Dublinfella, the stadium OWC play at is in the arse of nowhere,an area ruled by loyalist paramilitaries. They opposed the Maze for two reasons, the prime one being they didnt want to share with the GAA and also the proposed shrine as they call it to the H Blocks, which was to have contained both republican and loyalist artefacts.

But hey, you're from Dublin so your ignorance of the situation up here is already factored in and allowances made in advance

Main Street

"Nornironaid" was funny.

Furthermore, I note that the adress of the
Boston College Centre for Irish Programmes is

The Irish Institute
CONNOLLY HOUSE  :o
300 HAMMOND ST| CHESTNUT HILL MA 02467

Looks to me that it is a sponsored trip, all expenses paid,  to show sporting bodies, amongst other things, how to fundraise.
Not arranging fundraising for them.

It won't be the next manager but the one after that Meath will become competitive again - MO'D 2016

T Fearon

Well I hope the people at Connolly House are made fully aware of the background and anti irish nature of this odious organisation

Main Street

Tony, why don't you pen a letter to the Boston Globe and you may as well include all the Boston newspapers.

Ah Tony, lets not go lumping us all in the same bracket eh!
Ask me holy bollix

nifan

Rubbish tony.
I was against the maze, and i have no problem with sharing with the GAA.
I dont give a shite about any museam etc, im only concerned for NI football.

T Fearon

I have no doubt you are speaking the truth NIFan. The problem is, as in most cases, your admittedly liberal and welcome views are no reflective of the vast majority of your fellow fans

Main Street

The irony of the IFA begging Connolly House for the price of an airfare/hotel/and seminar fees.

Tony, why do you think you have a better idea of the fans view than me?
I can certainly speak with conviction for the views of my family members who where opposed to the idea (and they are not concerned with a journey to the matches).
I can also speak with some authotiy about the views of many members of the queens NI supporters club.
On top of this i was at the meetings where the topic was dicussed by the amalgamation of supporters clubs, at meetings with clubs and DCAL etc etc.

Very few are at all concerned with sharing with the gaa. comparable to the amount on here who didnt want to share with us perhaps - you included until you realised we didnt want it and you through your weight behind it.

Some had problems with the museum, but that i felt that most arent too concerned assuming they are able to have a good match day experience.

T Fearon

Sorry, but I am still of the opinion that sharing with the GAA and the so called shrine were the major factors for the overwhelming majority of North of Ireland fans. Also I believe that the vast majority of people know damn well there is no viable site in Belfast for the stadium and have held out in the hope of a redeveloped Windsor Park which is again the preferred option of the vast majority of North of Ireland fans who simply want their wee stadium for their wee country. I also believe that Wells' preference for the Maze site was the prime reason for his removal
