How disappointing not to read LL's questions. So, I'll make up a few of my own.

1) What % of the speed of light does keyboard signals travel to the processor?

2) Does the queen of england have a laptop or desktop, and has one registered on any discussion boards? What would one's handle be?

3) What was the first computer input device you used?

4) What % of the world electricty do computers consume?

5) How do memory sticks retain what you told them?

1) 100% all em travels at the speed of light , its the processing that takes time
3) A keyboard
4) Define computer
5) Logic gates
Anyway, long story short... is a phrase whose origins are complicated and rambling.

A mate of mine is getting a PC for the first time. The children are at primary school and will be using it for basic tasks. He is going to start using d'internet for looking at Youtube , etc, etc. There will no downloading of movies, music etc. Just bog standard internet usage and basic school work type stuff for the kids. He has asked me which one he should get as he thinks I'm an expert cos I use one for work. I told him I would ask around.

Any of you nerds out there got any suggestions based on the stuff above....I was going to suggest buying the most basic model from Dell though having looked at their site I have just realised that I havent a clue what I'm doing    :-[ :-[thanks in advance.
