What is it about Derry & sex offences?

I was chatting to a mate last night who works for the probation service. In the news yesterday they were reporting 2 Derry men in court on child porn charges and my mate insisted that there is a far higher rate of sex offending in Derry than anywhere else in Ireland. Why is this?

I had doubts about his claim but a quick search of the BBC news site throws up all these and many, many more.

Why would one town have a higher incidence of this type of offence than all of the others? No smart comments. This is very serious. My mate said he read a paper produced by social workers that claimed the incest had its roots in the days when women in Derry worked and the men were all at home unemployed.

Another one in the news today.

Anger over 'on release' attacker

Thomas Burke was out on licence when he committed the offence

A 79-year-old woman who was attacked by a burglar at her Londonderry home while he was released on licence, has said he should be locked up for good.

Thomas Burke, 49, from Drumard Park in Derry, was sentenced to five years in prison on Wednesday for the attack on Celine Boyle in March 2007.

His previous convictions included three for rape and 19 for burglary.

Mrs Boyle was rescued by a neighbour who heard Burke arriving over the phone and called the police.

Mrs Boyle said she was "horrified" when she learnt about Burke's previous convictions.

"I realised how much God was watching over us," she said.

"When I hear his record of rape and indecent assault and all the rest, it's unbelievable how we were saved."

"When it's too tough for them, it's just right for us"

It's only since the BBC News website intorduced a North West Feature that people notice the stories relating to Derry.  I am still certain there is no great significant increased proportion of Sex offenders in Derry than any other town / city of a similar size.

Here's another one today.

I'm sorry I just don't buy the idea that the BBC only report rapes from Derry. This story was carried on Cool FM earlier. If there was a rape in West Belfast, Newry or Bangor it would be reported. Derry seems to have a particular problem regarding sexual violence and incest.

It's time people woke up to the problem and started to do something positive to address the issue.

Rape accused barred from school

A Londonderry teenager charged with raping a 14-year-old girl has been ordered to stay away from a children's home and a primary school in Portrush.

Jamie Lynden Duddy from Lincoln Courts is also accused of unlawful carnal knowledge of the girl on 14 March.

The District Judge at Londonderry Magistrate's court ruled that Duddy was not to go within 100 metres of either premises.

The case was adjourned until 11 September.

Some mate of yours reads a report and suddenly you have Derry acclaimed as Capital of Incest.  There are undoubted problems but for you to say there is a predilection for incestuous behaviour in Derry over other towns/Cities is in my view disingenuous and flippant.

Guillem2

Read the reports I posted and listen to news sometime. Every week there is another Derry child molester before the courts or reports of a rape.

I challenge you to find as many reports for any town with a similar population in Ireland.

Hurler on the Bitch

Have you - on a daily basis -  ever read the Irish Independent? Average about two stories a day of some fecker who had been getting away with murder within his family for years. Eventually, somebody blows the whistle. This is a sick, sick, sick little society we live in folks.

Pangurban

And getting sicker by the Day. The Lunatics have taken over the Asylum, When you continually hear the people who are laughingly referred too as the Authorities, continually repeating the mantra...Something Must Be Done... you know you are in trouble, as they are admitting they have neither the wit, wisdom or will to do anything.
