From my limited knowledge of these things most of these media players are fairly similar, so does this one work out good VFM to you experts?

Anyone got any good suggestions for current models of Multimedia players?

Basically I want it to have a HDMI connection that will play ripped DVDS, BluRay as well as pics, avis from the camcorder etc.....

you cant go far wrong with any of the Western Digital players. Have one myself for a few years and have yet to come across a format it cant play. VOB, MKV, MP4, AVI etc

Agreed. I've got a Western Digital Live HD one. Haven't had any trouble at all.
