Quote from: thewobbler on April 13, 2026, 11:56:37 AMThere'll never be a science or clear pattern behind when the world's best player is going to return to the pack.

Sheffler would seem positioned for an extended period, for the main reason that it seems to take less out of him in terms of concentration/effort than it did for Rory, Speith, Day, Duval, Koepka, DJ, Donald etc.

But in reality, like everyone else, he's still only one small tilt in motivation away from being part of the pack.

Just looks like Rory doubled down and went for the Grand Slam and now it appears that he wants to dominate the Masters. Outside of the Ryder Cup it appears to be the main driving force for him now, can't imagine many of the tour tournaments are that much of a draw for him.

McIlroy was -12 after two rounds and even par for the last two and won.

Scheffler was even par after two rounds and then went -11 for the last 36 holes and came second.

If they had even played 3 good rounds each there would have been a big gap to the pack, never mind four good rounds.

Glad they didn't as it made for a better Sunday with all the drama. Some achievement to go back to back and as usual should be in the mix for the rest of them.

You can't make that argument at all. Four lads were one shot back on -10. Henley finished 66-68. Hatton shot 66 twice.

All I'm saying is that there would have been a bigger gap from 2nd to the rest if the two of them had played their usual standard. I don't think it's an out there thing to say. Take out the brain fart double bogies and Rory is on at least -14. Scheffler probably left 2 or 3 shots behind him as well.

Hatton started the 4th round 7 back so probably played freely rather than feeling pressure. Felt bad for Henley, he couldn't buy a putt on the back 9.

Story seems to be gathering steam. They're due to tee off in Mexico tomorrow. What odds they don't make it?
