DIY - blue Tape

Just bought a house there about 4 weeks ago.  Been doing a lot of the renovations myself.

Anyway long story short - I have always been handy enough at painting and seen that blue tape on the DIY shows on TV - thought I would give it a try.

Its friggin class.  I painted the ceilings first. Then once they were dry I taped the edges and painted the walls.  Once they were dry I peeled it off and a contractor couldn't have straighter lines! Used it all over the house now - best thing I bought by far

Doesn't take the paint off the surface at all and you can paint over the top of it.  Used on the carpet too when I was painting the skirting boards.

Anyone else ever tried it?  Also found the 5 in 1 tool handy (paint stripper, screw setter, paint tin opener......)

Any other good hints or tips?

Thse paint pads are a great job too.  Thought they were a bit of a joke until a printer friend recommended them.  You will paint a room in half the time and they give better coverage and a superb finish.

They're paint pads. You put paint on the pads and paint the room.

For some detail work as well, looks neat

I have never used them, do they work good on ceilings, as in less messy?

ziggysego

From what I'm told, no mess. Not seen it myself though.

can imagine there would be a load of paint at the bottom of each vertical line - think i seen one of these in the shop - might try them

We are moving out of a rented house. Our landlord is asking us to get rid of black mould in the bathroom. It's not much, just in the corners of the walls and ceiling. No proper ventilation in the bathroom but we've been scrubbing it off as much as possible over the years but there's patches that won't shift. It's on a painted wall not ceramic.

Got some mould remover but that took the paint off as well. Wondering if there is anything else we could try, diluted bleach would probably do the same. Might just do the whole lot and repaint it but wondering if there are other options?

If the landlord hasn't sufficient ventilation in the room (no window?!) then mould is to be expected! You will inevitably end up with a stain on the paintwork anyway so use bleach or a specialist mould remover and then repaint.

We've been over this a few times with him. It's a small job just easier to get it sorted don't want any hassle getting our deposit back as we'll be cash strapped for the next few months with the new house. And he's paid for all materials cleaners paint.
