The Rugby Football Union are co-operating with police in Auckland after allegations were made against four players.

Although full details of the allegation have not been confirmed, it occurred in a private room at the team's hotel - the Hilton in Auckland - in the early hours of Sunday morning after England's 37-20 defeat to New Zealand.

In a brief statement, the RFU said: "The England rugby team has been informed by Auckland Police that an allegation has been made against four members of the England playing squad.

"Whilst no formal complaint has been made we are co-operating with the police and their enquiries.

"In the circumstances we are unable to make any further comment."

Rob Andrew, the RFU elite rugby director, added: "The players concerned have the complete support of all the players and the management."

Auckland police have refused to reveal the details of the allegations or confirm the identity of the players - however a full investigation is under way.

A statement from Auckland police read: "Auckland City CIB is investigating an allegation involving up to four members of the England rugby team.

"The incident being investigated is alleged to have occurred early on Sunday, June 15, in a private room.

"Whilst an allegation was brought to the attention of police on Sunday evening, no formal complaint has been received.

"Investigating officers are receiving the appropriate level of co-operation from the England rugby team management."

The England squad has since moved to Christchurch to prepare for the second Test.

Auckland City police have confirmed that four England players are under investigation following an allegation of sexual assault and/or rape.

The four players involved have declined to be interviewed by police over the matter at this stage.

No formal statement has been made by the woman who made what police described as a "serious sexual assault allegation".

The alleged incident occurred early on Sunday morning in the city's Hilton Hotel following England's 37-20 defeat to New Zealand in the first Test.

Auckland police issued a statement confirming the nature of the allegation.

It read: "Members of Auckland City Police's Adult Sexual Assault Team [which is part of the Auckland CIB] flew to Christchurch yesterday in the hope of being able to speak with the four England Rugby Team players at the centre of a serious sexual assault allegation.

"The players have advised police - via legal representation this morning - that they are declining to be interviewed by police on the matter at this stage.

"Auckland City Police will continue to investigate the allegation - that a woman was raped and/or sexually assaulted by four players - as thoroughly as possible before reviewing the file.

"Any decision about where to take matters from there will depend on the outcome of that review.

"While no formal statement has been made by the woman who made the allegations, a formal complaint can be made at any time in the future and police are then obliged to assess the evidential basis of that complaint."

England are currently in Christchurch ahead of Saturday's second Test.

I hope it's bollocks but if it is not they deserve to be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
Armagh, the one true love of a mans life.

The rumour (and I emphasise the word rumour) is that a girl had spent the night with one of the English players, after the teams recovery session the next morning the 4 players went up to the room and pulled the duvet off the bed revealing the girl in her underwear. They then left the room. Apparently there is very little chance of any charges being laid as the story from the 4 lads as above is being backed up by a maid who was in the corridor.

Have that from a Kiwi colleague but have no idea if it's bullshit or not.

Where's there's a high profile team whether it be rugby, soccer, gaelic or whatever, there's always a high risk of this shit happening.

Yes I Would
