Like lots of old Irish music/poetry it was probably a metaphor for Ireland to keep the composer alive. Droimeann Donn Dilís springs to mind unless faithfull brown cows were held in particularly high esteem.

Just a thought watching it again, the Munster pack should counter the Haka with this, if they can sing that is.  ;D

I think that Dave Fanning has a lot to answer for when you see some of the shite that is passing for the greatest irish songs of all time.  Microdisney my arse.
I was listening to the Dubliners this morning belting out The Hot Asphalt, and I despair at the lack of radio and tv coverage given to good folk music.
