ano! sure what new! wouldnt mind given that a lash
Its not over til the fat lady sings!

Looks class , some of the skills the lads show in the video are unreal
Anyway, long story short... is a phrase whose origins are complicated and rambling.

Looks good aright - great idea, this is the kind of promotion hurling and football needs. It seems kinda like a mixture with lacrosse - you can only catch it on the hurley, and you 'flip' the ball rather than strike it, but its a great way to get people into the game. I've always thought thats where gaa is held back compared to soccer - it could do with a version that a few lads can mess about at in the park, and newcomers can easily pick up, in the same way that soccer is so easily adapted to any situtation.

Seemed a bit surreal in the video.
If a lad flicks the ball over your head you're going to slam him into the perspex rather than jump out of his way.

Yeah I think games might quickly turn into cage fighting after someone gets the ice-hockey treatment

A great idea but not so original, I saw similar in operation for d'soccer in Japan for the world cup in 2002, 3 a side games in a small indoor glass area and 3 goals to win, it was good craic to play though.

Fair play to Guinness for the new plans.  Just a pity none of the weaker hurling counties are getting a look in with the choice of venues.

Anyway will look forward to see what the other 5 main sponsors of football and hurling can bring to the games.

Fair play to Guinness they do a lot to promote the hurling championship. Some of their hurling related ads are great.

timmykelleher

Anyone signed on, played or even seen this yet?

Yeah, even though have direct interest in the development of grassroots hurling, they certainly gave the game a boost.
Which shows what can be done and what isn't being done to promote hurling.

magickingdom

great idea fair play to guinness. love to see that in the square in tralee during the festival, it would go dowm a treat

The Wedger

It seems very different from proper hurling though.
But if that's what people enjoy...

Hurling... but not as you know it

Cubed fever hits Cushendall GAA Club

Monday 28th September 2009: Guinness®, an official sponsor of the GAA Hurling All-Ireland Senior Championship, is bringing hurling off the pitch and into specially built 3D Perspex cubes again this Autumn. Building on from the success of last year's Guinness Hurling Cubed nationwide tournament, Guinness Hurling Cubed will make a welcome return to clubs across the four provinces next month.

Cushendall GAA Club has been selected as the first club to host a regional Guinness Hurling Cubed Invitational Championship. The tournament will take place in Cushendall GAA grounds over two days, Friday 2nd and Saturday 3rd October. The Cushendall Guinness Hurling Cubed Invitational will be followed by similar events in Dunboyne GAA Club, Meath; Carlow IT; and Ahane GAA Club in Limerick during the month of October.

Developed last year by Guinness, with expert guidance from former Cork Manager Donal O'Grady, Guinness Hurling Cubed is a fast paced and exciting derivative of hurling and has been described as an innovative and fun variation of the real thing by many of those who have played the game, whilst working on particular skills that benefit players in the real 15-a-side game.

The rules of the game are simple; teams of three players compete for either three minutes, or until three goals are scored. The game is played with 21" Hurleys and a soft touch sliotar and all within the confines of a Perspex Cube, which is 15m long x 10 m wide x 4 m high.

Cushendall will host the first Cubed tournament for clubs throughout Antrim and Ulster over Friday 2nd and Saturday 3rd October. For this weekend tournament, a maximum of 36 teams can take part in the Invitational Championship, and Guinness is currently working with Cushendall to invite local clubs to take part.

Each club that is invited by Cushendall will field a number of teams, and these teams will go on to compete in the Invitational Championship on the Friday evening, Saturday morning or Saturday evening session. Following on from these sessions, the winning teams will qualify for a final knock-out tournament, to be played on the Saturday evening.
The eventual winners will be crowned as champions of the Cushendall Guinness Hurling Cubed Invitational Championship 2009 and Guinness will donate €1000 to the winning team's GAA club. After the final, Guinness will also host a post-tournament presentation event in the Cushendall GAA Club House. The Cube will also be donated to Cushendall by Guinness and can be used for similar tournaments, training and fundraising initiatives in the future
