According to a report in today's Sunday Life, the IRA Army Council has taken a vote and will disband on Easter Sunday. They hope that this will remove the last hurdle for Unionists in relation to the transfer of Policing and Security powers to Stormont.

Saw an interview with peter the punt in the sunday times and he said it will be difficult to continue power sharing with sinn fein when he is installed as leader
"When it's too tough for them, it's just right for us"

He is just keeping the dup hardliners on board,no stormont is here to stay with our useless ministers running us rather than some tory or labour useless minister.

Good news, and as much as Robinson may protest he has absolutely no reason to bring down power sharing.

Far be it for me to cast doubts on the Sunday Life's no doubt impeccable republican sources with a pedantic point but I don't think the Army Council can disband itself – the Executive makes that decision just as they can vote in a reconstituted Army Council again at any stage. So if the Army Council has gone it's no more than a fig leaf to hide DUP blushes when P&J powers are devolved. The Army Council's job was to develop and oversee the running of the armed campaign and as that hasn't existed for some time, it has been defunct anyway.
