Well done the seniors. Clanns are on deck and hopefully the Harps will prevail in the qf.

Excellent report on the game btw. Top class stuff.

Armagh Harps Senior Ladies in Intermediate County Final

Armagh Harps Senior Ladies football started back in 1992 and in only their 2nd year running they made a clean sweep of all County competitions, winning the league, championship and the County Seven's Tournament, under the watchful eye of  Malachy Gribben.

It took them a few years, but in 1997 they enlisted the help of two of the senior players Brendan (Yorkie) Powell and Damien (Shoot) Jordan as coaches and finally regained the County Senior Championship and league.

In 1998 they retained their County Championship title under the expertise of new manager Kevin Kelly. Unfortunately that was the end of their winning ways for a few years, until 2006 when again they called upon the help of two of the present senior players, Marty Gill and Neil McArdle.

Some successful underage players started coming through and with new players joining them, they knew if they stuck together and worked hard they could in time, get back to their winning ways. Under the guidance of Marty Gill and Neil McArdle they reached the county final in 2006, though they were beaten well, but rather than give up they carried on training hard and in 2007 they came runner's up in the Division 2 league, in 2008 they won the Division 2 league and now in 2009, they are aiming to win the County Intermediate Championship Final against St Pat's of Cullyhanna in the Athletic Grounds this weekend - their first in 11 years. Armagh Harps Ladies have a panel of 26 girls and within that they have 4 sets of sisters and two sets of twins. They have 5 ladies playing on today's Championship final team that also played on the winning Championship final team back in 1998. They are Paula Powell, Shauna Agnew, Brenda Gill, Ciarrai Pattison and Christine Nixon.

The Armagh Harps Ladies will take on St Pat's of Cullyhanna Ladies in Armagh Athletic Grounds on Sunday 23rd August at 6.45pm.
