Any help with a programme or download that will convert a Works file to Excel.

Client has sent me in a spreadsheet in works. We had a old computer with works and excel on it that we could open it as works and save it as excel but we dumped that last year at some stage. Can't seem to find a trial version of Works either to download and use.

Any ideas, thanks.

Excel should just open it

Nope, won't open it, tried a few things. Just end up with a messed up excel sheet with text type format.

Can't remember off hand but i think works can save to CSV which will sort all compatibility issue . You'll have to get the client to resent as CSV

MS Works Converter 2.12

Converts Microsoft Works files (extension wks and wdb) to Excel format. It can convert great numbers of Works files in one go. Microsoft does not provide an import filter for Excel to load Works-WKS and WDB files later than version 2. (for Works-WPD and Word they do). There is no standard way to convert a lot of Works-WKS files into the Excel format. The only thing you can do is, provided you have a Works installation, to save each file out of Works manually into XLS-Format, which, frankly, is a pain in the neck. Our Converter does not need a Works Installation and you can use it for batch conversion. Version 2.12 may include unspecified updates, enhancements, or bug fixes. Replaces and adds some text in converted file.

( goes without saying, make a back up copy first)

Cheers Bensars, the trial version worked. Left a few holes but not too many that I can't fix manually.
