I am landing in Bangkok at 6.30 saturday morning and leaving 18 19.50 that night. Does anyone know a decent place to pass the few hours in between?

Try Reilly's.  I've been in it twice but I couldn't tell you the address. Grab one of the yellow/green taxis (avoid the tuk-tuks, they're crap and more expensive) which are cheap.  Tell the driver Reilly's Irish Bar.  Better still, if you got someone at the airport's info desk to write the name out in Thai script.  It's a friendly place with irish and english ex-pats as well as locals, and the food is decent...

Luder , which airport are you flying into ? the new one, don muang or something like that or the old one ?

If you are flying into the old one its a handy enough spin into the city centre , theres a good left luggage at the airport to dump the bags at. Head for the Wat po temple and check out the buddas , try and get to see the floating market but it might be a bit early for all that , your kinda fucked with the time your arriving at been so early. Maybe go for a massage and ask them for a happy ending :P :P :P

If you go to the temple/royal palace to see the green buddha, dress fairly modestly (trousers and shoes, no shorts)

The Blegard

Knowing you the question will be whether you want a roof over you or not. The planned activities are not in question. Where are you off to anyway. Im back home next friday for 2 weeks

Also good tip for that town is the deepheat sandwich. One condom on then a layer of deep heat then the second. When you here a scream get out quick smart

As mentioned, the Royal palace and the floating market are def worth a look
but stay away from the tour of the diamond factory no matter what they have to offer,
Potpong St but be fair careful as they'll try anything to separate you from your $$ :o

heading there myself just after New Years.

Booked to stay in the Davis Bangkok. Start of a RTW trip so willing to splash out in SE Asia and stay in some nice hotels, with the prospects of slumming it in OZ etc later on.

Whats the weather going to be like? I'm heading down the east coast all the way to singapore via malaysia in Jan. Its rainy season on the west while its dry on the east or something like that?

bailestil, i take it thats the intrepid trip booked through STA?

only arrived in sydney a few weeks ago off the back of it, its well worth doin and everything is taken care of in terms of accomodaqtion and travel. Some people dont like bangkok because its dirty but the people there are all characters and despite bein poor they are all happy. I'll repeat what someone else said about the tuk tuks, theyre ok once or twice for the novelty but beware of any that are very cheap, they take you to gem sellers and tailors, very hard to get out without spendin and a few of the lads ended up lugging suits around for the rest of the trip. After that the jungle is unreal if all the group do the activities and krabi/phi phi is amazin too. Malaysia is ok but muslim, just dont put on a head scarf in a public place like I did or you could be in bother. Singapore is clean but very expensive, make sure not to be found with porn/illegal dvds or chewing gum crossing the border or you'll spend time behind bars or a few thousand dollar fine.

Cheers wreckedem. Thats the very tour. Glad to hear someone else has done it. Its seemed a much better way of getting to singapore than flying down!
