Quote from: Munchie on November 14, 2025, 03:41:50 PMNo grammar school anymore in Armagh, here the girls school have entrance exams and allocate classes accordingly, seems to work. The boys school lumps everyone in with no academic selection, seems to be a f**king shitshow.

This is how it is in primary school. All abilities in each primary class. Up to the teacher to differentiate their the work so all abilities are catered for.
The transfer grammar schools don't want lesser ability pupils. Sure let the secondary schools deal with them. Grammar just want to do whole class teaching with better ability pupils and get the top grades in GCSE and A Level
A very significant percentage of our society want that system also.
I am not one of them btw.

Are you suggesting that lesser ability pupils are disruptive ?

He clearly wasn't.

There are people in this discussion who are quoting posts twice. I'm not here to engage in such carelessness.

Minister Givan & his cronies are in the process of making it even worse. Brought in a load of English academics to talk down our education system & he has jumped to their say so.. a knowledge lead curriculum, exams in 5th & 7th year, no coursework ....in the hope that this appeals to the underachieving protestant working class boys, he is so keen to get to step up. Complete and utter tool!

I think he can speak for himself
I reckon he was but we'll see.
Don't understand otherwise why he mentioned disruptive pupils in responding to my original post

Coursework led courses are a load of balls. Grammar schools still seem to favour the old school approach of exams at the end of 2 years rather than splitting it up. The latter is definitely to the detriment of the pupils if you have over 20 GCSEs in 5th year. The missus says it's because teachers are too lazy to do the work over 2 years.

A lot of big statements in there, Tony.

However, referring to your missus as "the wide" raises the eyebrows the most.

Oh dear hopefully you have nothing to do with education as you clearly can't read. I went to a grammar school and there were loads of messers but they were all there to learn even those paid in, especially those paid in, forward 30 years my lad went to the same now all ability school and 2 in his class were expelled from other schools, they didn't want to learn irrespective of their ability, they could of been geniuses but they had no interest in being there and took up a lot of the teachers time, you then had other students getting caught up in their behaviour be that reacting or engaging all to the detriment of those around.

Jim Bob

Ah munchie. You are all over the place there
My original point was that some grammars don't want lesser ability pupils through the door.

PS :  Its 'could have ' not 'could of '

Milltown Row2

All schools need to properly stream, how they do it is down to them, be it via the grammar system or streamed in a comprehensive school..

If I was in a class and wanting to learn and there was a lad that was disruptive I'd be pissed off..

That said I'd have been that disruptive kid back at school..
None of us are getting out of here alive, so please stop treating yourself like an after thought.

This is the convicted paedophile whose case highlighted serious failings within the Presbyterian Church in Ireland (PCI), leading to the resignation of moderator Rev Dr Trevor Gribben.

Former primary school teacher William Maher (38) was jailed in May for sex offences against two boys. The pervert, of Kings Brae in Belfast, was sentenced to one year in prison and one on licence.

He is thought to have been a voluntary church youth group leader.

Maher admitted to three charges of inciting two children under the age of 13 into sexual activity on dates between September 1, 2021, and May 24, 2022.

He also admitted three charges of sexual communication with a child against two children.

His sentence resulted in him being barred from the teaching profession and from working with children either in a paid or unpaid capacity.

Ah bless that's your take, it's an Internet forum not an English GCSE but whatever rocks your boat.

PS: Punctuation is there for a reason.
