I've now been in the public sector the guts of a dozen years after only private sector work beforehand.
All depends on the team / department in my experience. I've worked with the guts of 50 people (very low turnover of staff).. In my time there's been 1 guy who has been off for a stint, 13 months after a car crash. Zero others. Some will take the micky of course.

As long as we're not looking over there but... #bogeyman

Have spent enough time in company of NHS staff to know the abuse must be extraordinary.

Becomes ingrained in the culture and normalised. "Sure everyone else does it"

That's good to hear.  In that case, you would think there would be no major fuss if this benefit was removed?

The lovely unions would bring Norn Iron to a standstill.

Why TF did I have to read this. This is truly shocking. And another BS sentence with more BS "significant mitigating factors". I want to throw up. This absolute c**t will be prowling at large again before he's 30.

Sentencing north and south for these offences is horrific... as is bail being given for those facing henious charges. Shocking that the judge is a woman, not that's there's any excuse for male judges dispensing similar sentences.
Hopefully this boy will get some justice in prison.

Why are concurrent sentences not done away with?

There is no reforming these types. He will offend again, parasite lawyers will collect fees again. A family will grieve again.

No surprise, but it does lay bare that the civil service is a refuge for bluffers and dossers who'd be long gone if they were working in the private sector. All at the expense of the tax payer.

I mind a mate who worked in the civil service asking me many many years ago to go somewhere, I said had no leave left, he said sure use your sick leave that's what it's for, says it all.

I had a guy once that I paid when he attended a week long course to enable him to be trained up & become eligible to go on a standby list for a particular grade. There was no guarantee of any subsequent work. His name then turned up as a match, via the National Fraud Initiative. The employer he was with came to me & asked me what dates he had been employed by my organisation. It turned out he had been on the sick for a week with them, while he was attending the course. Nothing to do with me....I left them to it & never heard if he lost his job or not.

Me personally wouldn't factor into 'major fuss'. I haven't had a single day off sick, but what's around the corner? Wages aren't great, but benefits are. I'd keep them and hopefully never have to avail of them. But as long as everyone is looking and hating on public sector employees, job done
