How the economic justification for NI has collapsed

https://www.ft.com/content/e4b113f0-5552-11e9-91f9-b6515a54c5b1

Marshfield Tory  "In 2030 Ulster will  have a Catholic majority.  Wages and salaries in the Republic are 60/70% higher.   "

It is never widely commented, but Northern Ireland already has a Catholic Majority.  You occasionally see references in articles which claim that NI might have a catholic majority by 2021, but that is simply because the census which will confirm it is happening in 2021.  Statisticians already worked out from previous census figures, birth rates, school rolls, death rates etc, that the day that the number of Catholics overtook the total number of all denomination protestants was some date in early 2017, which was dubbed Lord Brookeborough Day.

Saw a fella with with a tattoo of a Crown and "Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori" beside it in Lisburn....

Either a searing commetary on the futilty and savagery of war for Queen  / King & country or someone trying to appear clever using a latin phrase and completely missing Wilfred Owen's point.....

A company that built 42 schools, all of which have been found to have structural defects, has been awarded a €14 million contract to build a new ward at University Hospital Limerick by the HSE. https://t.co/X5ZCmEaJJ0

It is also possible he is referring to the original meaning of the phrase as espoused by Horace before Owen changed the meaning to stand for exactly the opposite.

The phrase is used extensively in war monuments and military schools.

Had considered that but I would say WO's is the most famous usage albeit, as you note, not his own.

The High Court in Dublin has approved a bid by Ryanair to stop a proposed strike by Ireland-based pilots on Thursday and Friday.
Good relations after this??  I wouldn't think so

Ryanair is on a shaky scraw

"Ryanair has decided to close its base at Faro International Airport in southern Portugal from next year with the loss of at least 120 jobs, according to the SNPVAC cabin crew union, which had called a strike for 21-25 August.
The budget airline told the union the decision to close the base, which operates ten aircraft in summer, was part of wider planned cuts flagged last week due to weaker earnings, the grounding of the Boeing 737 MAX and concerns over Brexit, said SNPVAC director Fernando Gandra."

Many Brits don't even have the money now for Ryanair fares thanks to the collapse in sterling

UK residents took an average of 1.6 holidays abroad in 2018. Overall, residents took 3.4 holidays per person, including domestic vacations within the United Kingdom.

Are people taking fewer holidays abroad?

Despite figures showing a decrease in the average number of overseas holidays, there is yet to be evidence of a drastic change in the behavior of British travelers. The number of holiday trips taken abroad has increased each year, and Brits appear to be as keen as ever to travel. The rising price of international travel and the impact of Brexit however are issues that potentially threaten future travel trends, pushing more travelers to vacation at home.
