multiculturalism is total bullshit , Integrated Mono-culturalsim is the only way to go like Canada .
Anyway, long story short... is a phrase whose origins are complicated and rambling.

Ballax. PC gone crazy. By all means recognise the other festivals as well, but why should we stop making a big deal over Christmas?

supersarsfields

Retailers killed Christmas along time ago!!

I disagree lads. Retailers are making an arse of it, but Christmas is still a great time. I think it's the best time of the year. Of course some people just go mad with the commercialism of it, but it's still a special time, in my opinion.

Is that not what they're saying?

"If we are going to continue to mark Christmas - and it would be very hard to expunge it from our national life even if we wanted to - then public organisations should mark other major religious festivals too."

AZOffaly

Yes, sorry J70. I was responding to the title of the thread, and also the last line in the report about employers not offending other faiths by putting up decorations. I'd be sticking up Hannukah, Kwanzah and whatever as well :D.

Definitely. I haven't an ounce of religious belief in my body, but I still love Christmas! Its basically just as much a secular holiday at this stage.

You'll find public organisation don't  officially mark Christmas any more , the annual time off just happens to fall at that time , same with the annual diner etc. etc.

Does this mean that we have to kill off Santa as well, or is that not what Chriatmas is about.

what does Christmas mean to people? is it the religious celebration or the gift bit, or a mixture of both?

Retail is Christmas .
to lots
but to others there is more than the commercial factor.

I like it for the religious aspect. I enjoy that. I also like seeing innocent wee kids enjoy the religious aspect also married into the obtenation of gifts.
