Tony Baloney

Reading Karla's Choice at the minute. Written by Le Carre's son Nick Harkaway. A good read and the style very much in tune with his Da's work (and much better than Silverview.)

"Spy who came in from the cold"

"Tailor of Panama"

"Most wanted man"

All worth watching.

M [1931] and Lives of Others [2006] are masterpieces of cinema.

The BBC t**ker Tailor and Smileys People with Alec Guinness are a masterclass.

Guinness was so good that Le Carre changed how Smiley was subsequently written to match the actor

Agreed. Has to be one of the best TV series, ever. Alec Guinness proved that [sometimes] less is more & he didn't need to pull off any histrionics to nail that part completely. It has to be said that the whole show had an absolutely stellar cast, that backed Guinness up.

Plus, whilst we are on about the spy genre, an honourable shout out to the Ipcress File, which is still a favourite film of mine.

The BBc skipped over the Honourable  Schoolboy in favour of the 3rd in the Karla trilogy, Smileys People, which is also excellent. Although a youngish Patrick Stewart popping up as Karla is a suprise

Think there is a radio play version of the honourable schoolboy.

As this is the film thread I'll say Guiness was also very good in Star Wars.
Apparantly on cost grounds and you can remove the HS and 1 and 3 still work.
