Watched the Colin Farrell gambler film on netflix. It's got poor reviews but I quite enjoyed it

The Bruce Springsteen film is pretty good.  I wasnt blown away by it, but entertaining none the less.  I must say though that I'm not a massive fan (although I do like some of his songs), and I wouldnt know much about his life.

Jeremey Allen White is very good.

It's basically a snapshot of a period of time in the early 80s, and some childhood flashbacks. It's probably good that they didnt try to cover too much ground in such a long career.

Went to see it last night myself. My wife didn't enjoy it as it was darker than she was expecting.  Have read a few biographies and being aware of his problems and the issues around the release of the Nebraska album I really enjoyed it. Jeremy Allen White was excellent.

If you don't go to it expecting it to be a run through of Bruce's greatest hits it's well worth a watch.

I'm actually glad it wasnt, and that would have been my issue with the Bob Dylan biopic.

The film suggests that Cohn gave Trump three rules to live by (which Trump later plaigerised for his book on the Art of the Deal
- always attack
- never apologise
- claim victory even when defeated
Those seems like key tenets of his Presidency.

Watched The Smashing Machine last night (The Rocks Oscar bait film) wasn't a fan of it.

Also stuck on Ransom for a rewatch for first time in 10 years or so, forgot how good a film it was. Mel Gibsons acting in that "Give me back my son!" Scene and next 10 minutes is just brilliant cinema.

Wrote off The Apprentice when I saw trailer but wasn't bad. Second half dipped but the Cohn/ Trump performances were pretty funny.

Trump being portrayed as an ingénue a bit silly but its not going for realism anyway.

Saw The 3:10 to Yuma (1957) at the weekend, part of a classic western festival they're showing at a local classic cinema. Great show. Apparently it was remade lately with Christian Bale and Russel Crowe, so I'll be interested in seeing that sometime.

I've never seen the original but the Crowe/Bale one is terrific.
