Browsing through the terrestrial channels the other night and stumbled upon the start of the much vaunted classic, The Wicker Man, the 1973 original with Edward Woodward and a young ,nubile Brit Ekland, so I thought I'd give it a go and see what the fuss was about as I'd never watched it in its entirety before.

I was slow paced, and TBH weird as fĂșck for big parts of it with all the hedonism, paganism etc going on and the confusion around the "missing girl" soon to be sacrificed to the god of the sun on May day, but strangely kept you involved until the big switcheroo at the end.

I'd say it was a decent story well told and captured on film, maybe hasn't stood the test of time in lots of aspects but a worthwhile watch all the same.

Is there any other old classics out there worth viewing now?

With Mr Woodword in lead role, have you watch Breaker Morant set during the Second Boer War.

He's a quality actor all the same
None of us are getting out of here alive, so please stop treating yourself like an after thought.

If you want enjoyable older classics watch any film by the Greats. You won't regret time invested in any of these.

Kurosawa [seven Samurai, Yojimbo]
Tarkovsky [Solaris]
Hitchcock[north by Northwest, catch a thief]
Lumet [fail safe]
John Ford [The Searchers]
John Huston [treasure of Sierra madre]
 Dario Argento [suspiria ]
David Lean [ Lawrence of Arabia]
Powell Pressburger[red shoes]

Bridge over the River Kwai another Lean classic.
Scorsese's older stuff definitely belongs in there. Raging Bull is a masterpiece.

Tried to name the non obvious ones that aren't as well known. RB a film I cant like, Scorsese is a genius. After Hours is excellent

Went for the Cinema to watch 28 weeks later, pretty decent, nothing spectacular. Not sure if the final scene is out there yet but I didn't know it was coming, I was wondering now then, now then WTF is going on here

The new Superman, holy f**k!
'To the extreme I rock a mic like a vandal, light up a stage and wax a chump like a candle.'

I went to see the new superman today. It's about an alien who was brought up in the country. He trained to become a journalist I think but it doesn't show that. He has a notion of another journalist woman and she finds out he's superman but doesn't tell anyone else. There's a lot of action and a bald man really has it in for him. I don't want to spoil it but there's a dog in it and loads of other bad aliens and no sex scenes.

So, good then?

That's what I was wondering too! lol
I was thinking of taking the kids but wanted to hear if it was worth the hassle.

The Right Stuff [1983]
Felix Baumgartners death reminded me of Chuck Yeager.

This film is based on Tom Wolfe book, stellar cast of A list "mens men".

One for a rainy weekend as it's around 3 hours.

Felt like a spoof at times to be honest, with no real story in all honesty.

Went to Superman yesterday. Thought it was very enjoyable, although it took it 20 minutes or so to get going. Much lighter than, say, the Christopher Nolan Batman movies, which, while I loved them, were pretty serious at all times. James Gunn directed it, so similar tone to his Guardians of the Galaxy films.

Kids loved it.

The new How To Train Your Dragon movie was really good. I'd give it a strong 8/10. Kids loved it.

Also watched a movie on Prime with John Cena and Idris Elba called Heads of State. Paddy Considine had a supporting role as a bad guy.
Very cheesy, very silly, not much of a story - good leave your brain at the door fun you can watch with older kids.
