Had thought about that, the main hurdle is getting the planning permission passed, f**k its a long drawn out affair, so much red tape, you would nearly think people were attempting to build motorways or hotels,

does anyone know of the top of their head a rough figure for applying for planning?

Depends....

If ur applying for outline planning for a site the fee is worked out based on the size of the site in hectres (£200 per 0.1 hetre)

for your full plans the planning fee is £550....

All joking aside, do you need proper planning permission for something like a mobile home

quit yo jibbajabba

lads; whats the news on this stuff?
just heard snippets through word of mouth; but is it as crap as it appears to be for those of us wanting to build who arent a feckin farmer?

Did anyone ever see ther prog that had the fella on it who found a loophole in planning and buiilt a house under bales of hay??

He found that if it was built but no objections put against it within 3 or 4 years then it wasnt legal for him to be asked to demolish it.  They lived in it under the bales for those 3/4 years then once the time was up took them down.  It was unreal.  Im not talking a 2 up 2 down this was a castle!!

I have a site for sale with full planning permission and foundations poured if anyone is interested?
Was going to build before the downturn, but a combination of my wife becoming ill and little or no chance of being able to sell our current home we'll probably stay where we are for the forseeable.
Anyone interested pm me.
