This is an interesting listen - https://www.the42.ie/podcasts/66991213e18d4682d7b64eae/678f8ab1c4926bdc79379db5/?autoplay=1

It's a fair question in terms of RTÉ Sport and RTÉ overall - Public Service v Commercial.

Like one thing where they are really slipping up is that the lack of any preview show and the Podcasts they do in sport have good guests with interesting chats and they lash them up on YouTube with zero production value.
There needs to be a sports podcast studio where they can record video too, properly presented. If Ben Foster can make a go of it surely the state broadcaster can.

Then that would allow the Sunday Game shoe-horned ISSUE debates somewhere to live, and actually show the feckin games on the highlights show. There's only so much Donal Óg gives out pieces I can deal with.
Likewise on the first League Sunday there will be at least 15 minutes given over to the rules, while Div 3 and Div 4 teams get a 30 second clip when they had cameras there.

them mysterons are always killing me but im grand after a few days.sickenin aul dose all the same.

Agree with all of this. I think they had a preview magazine type show when I was a young lad if I remember right. Seem to recall there was a bit at the end where hurlers would smack balls into a goal and get more points for hitting the top corner etc, then you went on a leaderboard til the next person the following week. Bit like Top Gear's fastest lap

Thomas - if you're reading this, cut the babble by about 70%. Some of the blather yesterday in the Tyrone Derry Game was horrendous.

Too much Gaa on tv if you ask me. I watched all 4 matches shown  on tv , yesterday evening and today. None were worth watching, although the Down Roscommon match was a good laugh. The longer kickouts have shown up one thing. Most players cant catch a high ball. A basic skill learned from underage level in years gone by. Not too many players can kick the ball over the bar from 30 yards either. The new rules will at last expose the fact that there are very few who can actually master the  basic skills of football.

Captain Scarlet

77 seconds on League Sunday to fly through Div 3 and Div 4 scores...not a single second of match footage.

And, then as predicted, a good chunk given over to new rules. Fair enough some might say, as it was the first weekend, but it will be talked about all week on every podcast going.

Mark Sidebottom getting his wires crossed between rules enhancements and rules augmentation, LGFA on the brain that man

It's same e very year. Lip service to div 3 and 4. Show more lgfa and camogie than div 3 and 4.

The thing is League Sunday like a lot of RTE seem to believe if it doesn't happen in front of a RTE camera or in an RTE studio it effectively means it didn't happen.

By hope would be with RTE being pushed out of GAAGo, that the GAA actually run GAAGo in a manner where decisions are taken for what works best for the GAA instead of the last while were the RTE culture of decisions being taken on the basis of what best suits RTE employees.

If I was running GAAgo my first step would be a merger/buy-out of clubber and expand GAAgo clubber into more counties. Just turbo boost the number of GAA games available to those who subscribe to GAAGo. Clubber broadcast over 1000 GAA games in 2024. Imagine what clubber would do if it had the rights to more games.

Genuinely stay away from most punditry/post match stuff and just caught Cora Staunton there before the Down highlights (!). Jesus, it's like she is there under duress. No insight and absolutely zero craic. If that is the standard then I'm happy to leave it!

Rossfan

I hear TG4 streaming all Div 1 and 2 games not on live next weekend.
Play the game and play it fairly
Play the game like Dermot Earley.

Rossfan

Small bit of action from Donegal v Derry followed by load of waffle.
Then feckin hurley stuff.

Should have started with the hurling, they were national finals after all rather than some provincial qualifier with one man and his dog at it. ;)
