I'd go for Frank Murphy Cork - huge respect everywhere for Frank.

Potential Successors:

Paric Duffy
Danny Murphy
Christy Cooney
Sean Kelly
Pat Daly

What would be the odds on each of them?

Everyone is touting inside names, which is fair enough

But who makes the call on the appointment and what is the procedure involved?

How much of a role did Mulvhill really have the resurgence of the GAA/redevelopment of Croke Park?

Surely the qualified candidate should have a track record in the mangement of a large voluntary organisation and the GAA should trawl around.

I can't imagine that the GAA is anything other than a nightmare for a hands-on style manager - too many committees, busy bodies and people who like the sound of their own voices.

I wish whoever it is the best of luck, but whoever, it is will probably need to centralise the GAA'a administration and I don't think Quinn would be up for that.
In Roman mythology, Pietas was the goddess of duty to one's state, gods and family.

My initial stab at it.......

Forgot about Danny Murphy - he'd be around 16/1 I'd say. Pat Daly would be another 33/1 outsider.

Bookies Board is seriously funny.

Mulvihill did a great job and will be hard to follow but of all people let it NOT be Quinn.  He was a great President and his report on the future of the GAA an invaluable document which did not get half enough attention. The trouble is that he is far far too abrasive and is in a class of hius own at getting peoples backs up.  In an organisation the size of the GAA you have to be able to bring people along the road with you.

Is professional not the word you were looking for?

That's short odds for Albert Fallon, I wouldn't have thought he'd be interested, though he has the distinct advantage (over anyone else) of being from Longford.  :P

I haerd a long time ago that Paraic Duffy was the man, he's a good administrator, there's no doubt about that.

Peter Quinn would be ideal though.

Quinn won't go for the job he is semi retired as it is.

The only three names that I would suggest are being considered are:

Padraig Duffy (Favourite)
Danny Murphy (Outside Bet)
Christy Cooney

Brennan has also stated that in addition to the Director General there would be a new "deputy" a "Minister for External Affairs" type role to support the boss, I wonder who would be in line for that?

I am throwing my hat into the ring.

Pros

1. From Longford
2. Live in Dublin
3. Know where Croke Park is
4. Can do sums
5. Holder of a county minor medal

Cons

1. Haven't served on club or county board
2. Never played at a high level
3. Don't know Frank Murphy
4. Couldn't take the salary cut
5. Accent too boggy
6. Can't handle com-it-tays. I'd want to run a dictatorship

(Edit) Billy refers to a second Longford man in charge. Just for the record that's Peter McKenna who is the Croke Park Stadium Director and another St. Mels College acquaintance of ours. Us Longford folk surely punch above or weight!
