Quote from: ONeill on January 25, 2025, 09:03:36 PMI thought that was a remarkable call by Oliver. To give a red he must've been 100% sure. Surely a yellow, and see if it's upgraded. Maybe he saw an angle no one did.
Watched it on MOTD last night and it looked the most nailed on yellow ever. I don't think I've ever seen a red for anything so innocuous. It was cynical and didn't look particularly dangerous but I think one of the commentators said anything above the ankle is considered dangerous play.

On the Premier League's website it says high, full and forceful contact on the ankle or above is "considered dangerous" and a "red card". I definitely didn't meet all those criteria.

Arsenal clearly need a striker.

Will they splash the cash?

J70

That was never a red card.

Even yesterday there were fouls in other games way more deserving that were given as yellows.

Actually glad Arsenal won as it ended up being relatively inconsequential (assuming it gets overturned this week).

As for Oliver, that's the same ref who didn't even give a foul (in the area) for Doku's studs into McAllister's chest in the last seconds at Anfield last year. Nor did VAR advise a review.

ONeill

Havertz gone for the season now too. Arteta/board gambled and came up very short.
I wanna have my kicks before the whole shithouse goes up in flames.

Very short indeed

Hopes for the rest of the season might revolve around a 17yo Nwaneri in false 9, saying that, Arteta will no doubt try something far more insane, whatever the adjustment I'm predicting Merino starts every game from here in

Mourne Red

Boards fault.. Arteta wanted a striker but they wouldn't do it.

Sterling and Trossard will be our Strikers for rest of the season.. Tierney will probably be one of our attacking options on the left now

Just play for more corners should be grand!

I am surprised maybe didn't look at Toney on loan even to end of the season, don't think the big money move worked out to well.  Villa were never going to part with Duran and Watkins in the one window.

The parallels with George Graham haven't gone unnoticed

ONeill

Even the fact they were reliant on Havertz says a lot.

Maybe Ted Drake will possess the body of Sterling.

It's where any parallels end.  George Graham led Arsenal to six trophies in eight seasons including two league titles and a rare European trophy for the club.  Arteta meanwhile is on course for his and Arsenal's 5th consecutive season without winning a trophy.

ONeill

Hard to compare though as Graham took on Arsenal when that great Liverpool side were in their death throes and Utd under Ferguson hadn't really kicked in yet.

Arteta has been unlucky to come up against the beast of Man City the last 2 years. Didn't really do much wrong with those two points tallies.

That's a poor forward line Arsenal have for the next few weeks. It's something they'd put out in the league cup. Possibly one of the worst in the division, well top half anyway.

ONeill

I was hoping that getting a starting role and added responsibility would give Sterling a zip in his step.

He has fallen off the cliff so far that he's almost unrecognisable.

Hard to believe Arsenal's entire starting forward line are out. Saka-Havertz-Martinelli. It'll cost them soon.

Left with a front three of a past it Sterling, a doesn't want to sign contract Trosard and a 17 year old.

Sterling is so bad would expect a front three of Nwaneri- Merino-Trossard moving forward.  What is the issue with Trossard and the contract any move that he's going to get would be a backward step, never going be a regular starter at a top club.
