Mourne Red

Quote from: tiempo on November 03, 2024, 11:52:01 AMIf Arteta is to win the league it'll be Mourinho style with an imperious defence, there's no shame in that but it looks unlikely this year

I have no sympathy for recent poor league results having played Saka and Havertz against Bolton and Preston in the league cup, absolute stupidity

We won't win the league - We don't have enough match winders. I get what you say about Mourinho style, but he still had Lampard, ballack, Robben, Drogba and go could win a match on their own

Look-Up!

Yep you need match winners. Even Ten Hag, I think his points tally would have looked an awful lot better with a proper goal scorer, and might still be in a job. His concession rate wasn't awful. Not scoring goals really killed him eventually. If you become too one dimensional you will be found out in PL.

On another note, another ballot and another success. This time v Everton. 2/2 this year.

In the good old days (before Man City), title challengers could have a wobble or five in a season. Now it's the end of the world if all 3 points are not gotten in every game and you are labelled a choker.

Manchester City currently 2nd in the table aren't to blame if Arsenal by tomorrow find themselves in sixth place in the table. In his 6th season in charge that is not where Mikel Arteta would have expected his Arsenal team to be in and in that time just one trophy won the FA Cup in front of empty Wembley Stadium four years ago.

Up to yesterday City had a 32-match unbeaten streak in the Premier League.

Their last top-flight defeat came at Aston Villa 11 months ago.

Clubs with stats like that burn off challenging teams, as their squads cannot cope with such constant pressure.

Doing a bit of scapegoating when Arsenal's current position is on themselves and with this manager and group of players have only challenged for the title for two seasons so they shouldn't be burnt out yet.  European and domestic cup exits the last few years to the likes Sporting CP,Brighton,West Ham,Nottingham Forest,Bayern Munich,Southampton and Liverpool a couple of times was again on themselves than any such constant pressure on their squad.
Such nonsense. Being unable to slip up in a season because City are just that good, is outside Liverpool, Arsenal or anyone else's control. That's what causes the burn out. They don't have the squad depth City has. That shouldn't really need to be explained.

I don't buy the theory of getting burned out after just two seasons challenging.  It's was on Arsenal themselves than blaming another team.

Last season in the run-in Arsenal made no effort to beat Manchester City with their 27% possession parking the bus tactics in 0-0 draw and then weeks later well beaten at home by Aston Villa.  Season before finished five points behind Manchester City because Arsenal lost two of their last three games against Brighton at home and Nottingham Forest.

I don't buy the City squad thing. Arsenal's has been bigger over last few years but Arteta didn't trust them. City carry a smaller squad, but higher quality players so Pep has no fears rotating them to keep them fresh and not affect quality. Maybe has caught up this season with injuries because the calendar has become scandalous.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

ONeill

That was a bit more like it from Arsenal tonight. Can't finish at the minute but the better side and unfortunate penalty.

Jeffers and Suker could fix the problem.

It was opportunity knocks for Arsenal tonight when Inter Milan chose not to start a handful of their first choice and best players as Simone Inzaghi had a bigger focus on Sunday's Serie A top of the table clash with Napoli.

statto

Odegaard getting back on the grass last night massive lift for Arsenal how they have missed him.

Didn't think there was much between the sides. Arsenal are probably playing at a lower level than last year, and Chelsea higher.

If Liverpool go through a sticky patch, it's shaping up for a decent season to watch for a change. A few sides would fancy it.

Been a great couple of weeks for Liverpool.  A shame almost that the international break has come now. May give Arsenal and Man City a chance to regroup.  9 points is a huge gap though for Arsenal to make up.

That's just, like your opinion man.

ONeill

Only solace is that Arsenal have already gone to City, Chelsea, Spurs, Villa and Newcastle.

That'll only mean something if they go on a good run now.

Yup was looking at the top of the table today and Liverpool have to go away to all of them bar Arsenal

ONeill

Just back from today's game. Very comfortable. And good to see players like Merino and Timber play well.

Interesting if he's having a rethink on Havertz, even though the German hasn't done much wrong.

Need to keep winning now.

Arsenal appear to be a tall team. Maybe I'm small.

Havertz has to be carrying something? No way he was dropped.
