Quote from: GoldCoastRossie on March 04, 2026, 04:48:21 PMWith no one wanting a league final maybe give the team that finished first in each division, a home final and allow the county to keep 80% of the gate or some other split and you might get a decent crowd at the game and a bit of local excitement.

Pretty sure I heard before that there is pretty decent money on offer for getting to the finals of the various divisions already. Don't have a Euro amount but definitely heard that it was lucrative enough from someone who would have been in-the-know.

Quote from: AustinPowers on March 04, 2026, 05:06:39 PMI think  the problem is  more  to do with potentially having  a championship match 7 days after a league final , rather than not wanting  to win the league at all.

Armagh and Tyrone play  in the preliminary round in Ulster . If either  qualified for  a league final ,  I wouldn't imagine they'd go like  mad to win it,  even if it was  in front of their own fans. The championship game (potentially) a week  later would be of more importance

Yeah only having a week's break to the first championship game is the big problem.

I think what will happen eventually is the preseasons will be scrapped and a minimum of 2 weeks will be allowed between the league final and championship.

One possibly off the wall idea is that any team who gets to a league final is exempt from playing in the preliminary round of a provincial championship the same year. If it happens that one of the 8 teams that reach  the league finals were drawn in the preliminary round previously, a new draw is conducted with the league finalists getting a bye beyond the preliminary round. Doubt it would have any hope of being implemented but it could add some spice to matters.

A minimum of 2 weeks is between the league final and championship this year so the theory of not wanting to win the league isn't the case compared to previous years.

moonster

Jack O'Connor is circling the wagons. Pouch Cooper and Spillane talking up young McDonald from Mayo. He only 18 for god sake. Building lad up to fall will talking down their own lads. A dose of cnuts.

For this weekend you have to fancy Dublin to beat Armagh and therefore relegate both Ulster teams (Monaghan & Armagh).

Kerry v Mayo - could go any way but either is safe and maybe who wants a league final the most. Kerry by 3pts
Rossies v Donegal - I expect Donegal to win this but could be close. Donegal by 2pts
Monaghan v Galway - This is Monaghan's last chance and with 2 home games left they need 2pts here, if they have some injuries cleared up you just never know. They have history of pulling it outta the bag so gonna go for Galwat by 2pts based on Monaghan still having major players out injured.

Any word on the Armagh squad with injuries and possible addition(s)?.

Wouldn't agree that you would expect Dublin to win, they had a good win against the odds last week against a very flat  Roscommon team, but have been very underwhelming in the league before that.  It's a must win for Armagh and they have been in games all year against better sides that this current Dublin team.

Would expect that Kerry would want to get to the league final for another competitive game in Croke Park before Munster starts?

Kerry v Mayo - Kerry by 4.
Rossies v Donegal - Donegal by 5.
Monaghan v Galway- Galway by 6.

Taking the kids to croke park on sat for the first time. Any recommendations for car parking. Will likely stay for some of thr dublin/armagh game but will probably leave it at half time.

Hopefully Kerry are coming up
to Armagh with nothing to play for, but even at that I'd imagine they'll want a competitive game against us in what'll hopefully be a must win game for us.

As a reminder the last meeting was in June in Croke Park Dublin 0-19 Armagh 0-24.

League meeting last year Armagh 1-20 Dublin 1-12.

Dublin got a win under their belts against underperforming Roscommon who still created around 30 scoring chances including 6 goal opportunities.

This is a game I feel that Armagh will finally score a goal or two in and look to match the scoring total of 23/24 points which should be enough to beat Dublin once again.

Feck I hope so! Murnin shouldnt be far away I think, he got injured against Roscommon which will have been 4 weeks, could be back depending on severity. Hopefully we can bring a decent crowd down the road.

Blowitupref

All four Division 1 games covered live this weekend.

Interesting looking at the current table and the table last year after 5 rounds.

Is the ref going to finally blow his whistle?... No, he's going to blow his nose

Q Park The Spire was handy enough the last time I used it for a match.
