It's hard to know but I do think they'll be going all out .
Laois were down in Waterford at a training cap recently.  Everyone still on board by all accounts.
Wicklow will be tricky.

Very impressive display by Laois today v Wicklow. Major improvement in ball winning from kickouts and real intelligence when they win it in the way they retain possession without panic. Fitness levels seem good and I think they will be a hard team to beat in this competition.
Well done to all concerned..

Accurate analysis of today .

McNulty has created an organised panel of footballers with a system in place that is bringing the best out of them with everyone singing off the same hymn sheet.
Good to see Byron start today and perform well

The PRO

The goalie change probably helped alright. Roche wasn't doing a whole lot wrong to be fair to him but the kickouts were better and more varied.
Kirwan was excellent wingback and although Byrne is captain, it's hard to see how he can get a starting jersey just now.
Burke is a super fielder of the ball but his kicking is erratic enough while Tyrrell is a much better passer and works like a dog. Swayne impressed me. Good, direct runs with the ball. I'd start Fingleton next day instead of McEvoy.
Galvin and Coffey did well, particularly in the first half. Brilliant goal by Evan, we really should have had a few more goals.
A trip to London next time out. Have to be winning that or there's a lot of good work undone!

Hurlers and footballers in London same weekend.  Double header on cards ?

Laois Rising

Surely a bit of common sense would see a double header created. Can see a sizeable Laois support travel- in fact better chance of getting more Laois supporters to the games if its a double header in London as opposed to Portlaoise!!!!

Does anyone know what the logistical issues were that meant the games couldn't be a double header?

Short notice
Uk Bank Holiday
Championship play offs in Wembley

Would they really cause a big problem for a double GAA header in Ruislip?

You would think that there will still be roughly the same amount of Laois people travelling whether supporting the footballers or hurlers. They just might not see both games. Would have been a much better crowd if both were on the same day.

Maybe Ruislip itself doesn't have the facilities for a intercounty double header.
The real glory is being knocked to your knees and then coming back. That's real glory. VinceLombardi

Laois GAA secretary Niall Handy has now confirmed that they had actively explored the possibility of staging both matches together on Sunday, May 24, but ultimately found it impossible due to logistical constraints.

In a message circulated to all clubs, Handy explained that the county board's preferred option had been a double header in Ruislip.

"I just want to clarify that it was Laois GAA's intention and willingness to play these games as a doubleheader on Sunday May 24 (as this was the initial date pencilled in for final round of Joe McDonagh Cup games)," he said.

"Unfortunately due to various attempts by our travel agent, this was found to be logistically impossible due to flight and accommodation availability, at such short notice, which may be somewhat explained by the fact that it is a Bank Holiday weekend in UK and also English Football League play-offs in Wembley on that weekend also."

The combination of the UK Bank Holiday weekend and the EFL Championship, League 1 and League 2 play-off finals at Wembley is expected to bring exceptionally high demand for flights and hotel accommodation across London, significantly complicating travel arrangements for teams, officials, and supporters alike.

While many supporters remain disappointed that the double header could not be delivered, Handy's explanation clarifies that the issue was not due to a lack of willingness on Laois GAA's part.

But rather the practical realities of organising travel and accommodation during one of the busiest weekends of the year in London.
