From South/North Antrim to All County

Quick one for youse all lads.

What year was the transition to All County Finals actually made? Know it was in the 80's, but not sure exactly when.

This, of course, is based on the old North vs. South Divisional boards for All County, winners of each divisonal area etc.

Senior championship has always been all county has it not?

At underage level its more recent that the likes of U16 was moved from the north Antrim winners (McMullan Cup) to be all county.

Same at Feile level with North Antrim v South Antrim. I was with our U14 hurlers in 2014 and they won NA feile v Loughgiel and then played Rossa in the Antrim final.

I'll ask my da who would know.

I only ever recall seeing it at u14 and u16 level and minor was all county. Had barely seen a city team till I was near 18

I played first senior championship 88 and it was always all county, and going back watching our seniors as far back as 82 it was the same,  juvenile was generally from minor up in the league and all county championship at minor also, divisional boards played their own championships at underage, under 12 up to under 16, but the winners played each other in the all county final

Yeah that was the same with me as well. We always played North antrim knockouts from U12 to U16 and then played the South Antrim winners in a final.

For minor it was all county for championship and the league which was 1995 from my time of playing. We also played north antrim league and Darragh Cup at that time.

I rem that we won the McMullan Cup in 93 and then played St Pauls in the county final about 4 months later. It was never that well organised in terms of time frames.

Lisburn won SW Junior Championship in 1990 & played Davitts in County Final to win first All County title. Unsure of Intermediate at that time .

Is the SW junior championship not the mccormick cup which is just an independent competition though?

We won Intermediate hurling in the 80's and it was all county, all the way through, not sure about Junior though

It is now certainly.

Nah, It defo was, it's been mentioned in many history articles. It would also have made sense years ago because of travel etc.

Well 100 years ago that would be difficult but if we look at the records I'm sure there's a mix of country and city games
