Pros of Digital IDs

Convenience & Efficiency: One digital ID replaces multiple physical documents (driver's license, passport), speeding up services like banking, healthcare, or government tasks.
Reduced Fraud: Makes fake IDs harder to use, preventing illegal work and identity theft.
Modernization: Helps integrate services and moves society towards a more digital future.
Emergency Access: Can provide quick access to crucial medical information in emergencies.
Economic Benefits: Potential for job creation and economic growth, say proponents.

Cons of Digital IDs

Privacy Concerns: Risk of government or corporate misuse, sale, or unauthorized access to vast personal data, enabling mass surveillance.
Security Risks: Centralized data creates a massive target for hackers, leading to potentially devastating data breaches.
Government Power: Concerns about increased state control and the potential for future misuse, even with current good intentions.
Technical Failures: Reliance on technology means system hacks, glitches, or power outages could lock people out of essential services.
Digital Exclusion: Marginalizes those without access to smartphones or digital literacy, creating a two-tiered society.
Implementation Issues: Potential for costly, delayed, and poorly managed projects, as seen in past ID schemes.

Key Debate Points

Security vs. Privacy: The core tension is balancing enhanced security and efficiency against fundamental rights to privacy and freedom from surveillance.
Trust in Government: Public confidence is a major factor, with many wary of the government's ability to manage such sensitive systems securely and ethically
None of us are getting out of here alive, so please stop treating yourself like an after thought.

when you see Francesca Albanese getting her bank accounts frozen just for reporting the truth about Gaza then you really need to start worrying about big brother, tech, Planatir and how they use your information and control you.

ID's would just be another piece of the puzzle.

The amendment to ban under 16s use of social media that passed in the Lords last night would surely mean many adults would be required to verify themselves online to access many digital services. Time will tell but "The government has indicated it will try to overturn the amendment in the Commons, whilst it holds its own consultation on a potential ban."

Nothing has really changed down under, was a father daughter on radio the other day and they get around it no bother, all her friends are back online

If Larry Fink thinks the digitisation of currency is a good thing, I'm totally against it.
