Balboa

Another thing you have to take into account with young quarterbacks is the weapons they have, strong running game so they can mix the play calling up and of course top receivers, Leinart certainly has the receivers in Fitzgerald and Boldin, im not sure that Young or Cutler do. Great receivers can make a quarterback look good, Kitna in Detroit, Anderson in Cleveland???

AZOffaly

True Balboa, but the overall package is more of the differentiator between great teams and average teams. A lad could be on a poor NFL team, and still be a relatively decent NFL QB, even though the average punter mightn't call them any good, and their Fantasy Stats might be poor.

The things that make a good QB in this league (along with the obvious tools) are things like the ability to 'check down' through receivers, recognising coverages, making good decisions at the line and audibling, not taking unnecessary sacks, not throwing into double and triple coverage, and remembering that punt is not always a bad thing. Throw the ball away if you're in trouble, don't turn it over on your own 20 yard line.

You're dead right though, even doing all those things a QB won't get credit, or wins, without having a good running game and/or good receiving corps.

AZ, if I thought Trent Green could keep me from the inevitable 2-13 then I'd have no problem trading for him  :-[

Anyway, I'll make damn sure not to miss the draft next year

the onion bag

Young is 13-7 as starting QB for the Titans which isn't a bad record considering he's perceived to have a dodgy arm and that they haven't the best receivers or running game in the league

might have something to do with their brilliant defence

Barring a disaster - another win for the Astros

Deel, you'll never know how close you were to a heartbreaking defeat. Late on Saturday I blinked and replaced a questionable Vinny Testaverde with his understudy. The latter scored minus 2 and the former +3.something. I would have clinched it by 0.50 if I hadn't changed.

Gutted.
I wanna have my kicks before the whole shithouse goes up in flames.

Could be a costly one ONeill come end of season..
Although Deel had 15pts from a TE on the bench..
Leave him there again next week Deel..  :P

And it continues to heat up. Week 9 is done and dusted, and while we now have a clear top 4, there is still only 2 games seperating 2nd from 12th following a very interesting week of games.

In the first game of the week the GalwayImpactPlayers had less than 2 points to spare over the Faithful Turfmen, winning 82.25 to 80.82 as Larry Fitzgerald (WR-ARI) led the way with 19.70 points. The ImpactPlayers and Turfmen are both on 3-7, and realistically out of the running.

Next up saw the Curragh Rams' colours being lowered by basement dwelling Sydney's Sailors, as Kurt Warner (QB-ARI) led the way with 21.58 points in a 99.02 to 58.30 win. The Rams were greatly handicapped by bye weeks, and fall into a 3 way tie for second place at 7-3, while the Sailors move onto 2-8, and off the bottom on points difference.

The third game on the ticket saw the Ardboe Astros deal a heavy blow to the Craigyhill Terrors' hopes of Superbowl contention as they ran out 61.55 to 50.63 winners thanks largely to 20.45 points from New York Giants tight end Jeremy Shockey. The Astros season is still just about alive on 4-6, while the Terrors drop to 9th place on 6-4.

Moving along the card, the Red Hand Helmets were another minnow to deal a bubble team a serious dent as they rode Cleveland QB Derek Anderson all the way to a 84.32 to 66.31 win over the erstwhile 4-5 Mafiosi. The Mayomen fall to 4-6 and are clinging on by a fingernail, while the Red Hand Helmets are still probably out of contention, but will cause problems for any team between now and week 15.

Fifth up saw the Hegan's Helmets profiting from big weeks from Ben Roethlisberger (QB-PIT) and Tony Romo (QB-DAL) as they evened up the season's record with the Lurgan Langers, thanks to a 108.65 to 70.38 victory. Both teams are now on 6-4 and in a tie for 5th place, records wise. The Points Difference puts the Helmets at 6th, while the Langers are at 10th, so that was a big result for Hegan's Helmets.

Performance of the week, point wise, came in the next game as the Ruthless Rossies continued their good run in this battle of the 6-3 teams, and ran out 132.57 to 81.12 victors over the overmatched Crossmaglen Hitmen. The Rossies had a huge 28.50 point output from Darren Sproles, San Diego Running Back, and a 27 point outing from the much maligned Denver Bronco Defence. With this defeat the Crossmaglen Hitmen find themselves under pressure at 6-4 and in 5th place, but they are far from out of the running, while the Rossies leap up to 7-3 and 2nd place on points difference.

The 'we're not finished yet' performance of the week comes from the revamped L'Esprit de Biff, who had 21.10 points from Jason Campbell (QB-WAS) en route to a 91.72 to 67.53 point win over the shaneoneills. The oneills drop to bottom of the table on 2-8, while the Biffs move up to 8th place on points with a 6-4 record, and only 1 game out of the top 4. Quite a difference a win makes.

If the Biffs managed to meet the challenge at 5-4 from week 10, the Broncos couldn't quite do so, and are now in serious bother. They fall to 5-5, having come out the wrong end of a 74.11 to 46.03 result against the Cleveland Steamers. The Steamers have caused higher ranked teams bother before, and will do so again, even if their own 3-7 record probably means they are off the radar for the playoffs themselves.

Shock of the round in terms of the records of the respective teams is undoubtedly the crashing halt the 4-5 Lummoxes put to the previously unbeaten Bet with Paddy Power squad. A 70 point beating is a huge statement by the Lummoxes against an understrength Powers squad, and will give them a huge fillip for the rest of the season, as they move onto 5-5. The Powers stay clear on top, with two games to spare on 9-1 and remain favourites to top the table, although they may well be vulnerable in the playoffs if injuries don't clear up.

In another 6-3 battle, a costly managerial move by O'Neill's Chargers handed a 99.47 to 94.76 point win to the mayo warriors, who were doing battle without heavy hitter Tom Brady. In the circumstances Donovan McNabb's 30.87 at the helm of the Philadelphia Eagles was invaluable to the warriors, who move onto 7-3 and 3rd place on points. The Chargers are 6-4 and in 7th place, with 5 weeks to go.

It's coming along nicely.
